MFW: ECC & K4 WEEK 33

This week we will start our studies on Antarctica.  We'll study all about penguins, icebergs, difference between Arctic and Antarctica, and many animals and plants that live there.  Work on letters, numbers, and learning his name with little man.  Study the bible and learn more about the days before Jesus died on the cross.

She has really enjoyed these workbooks which I found at Dollar Tree.  Who knew I would find these there, it has helped her better understand multiplication and division.

ARTS & CRAFT



Crystal Watercolor Snowflake



Soap Snow which we actually modified and instead made snow by mixing 1/2 cup of Conditioner and 2 cups of baking soda.  It's cold to the touch and smells so good.



Another art project we modified was the Sweet Snow Sculpture.  We used plastic cups and glued them to a paper plate and then covered the cups in cotton balls.  Kids built a smaller version of an igloo with more cotton balls.  K made hers the Arctic and D made his Antarctica.  They came out so good and the best thing they can keep them to play with anytime.  

Like being able to modify the art projects in ways the kids could enjoy them for longer and not feel like we are wasting materials.

It was raining small balls of ice (hail) and the kids loved going outside and trying to catch as many as possible before it melted.

Iceberg Experiment 

Kids colored their penguins with crayons making sure the whole penguin was completely covered, then they sprayed the penguin with water.  They observed how the water would roll off the bird and drip off the paper.  Great way to see how penguins stay dry.

Printed this really neat worksheet on Antarctica from Education.com.  Great way to add to our studies for the week.

This week at our co-op the theme was "Career Day" and the kids dressed up and gave a presentation to what they want to do for their career.  K wants to be a Paleontologist and D wants to be a Police Ninja.

Theme this week at the library was Farm Animals.

This week we finished our studies on Antarctica.  We studied all about penguins, icebergs, the difference between Arctic and Antarctica, and many animals and plants that live there.  We did a lot of science experiments and art projects.  It has been a wonderful week of learning and fun.  Unto next week where we will review all the countries we have studied this year.  Can't believe how fast we have gotten to the end of our Exploring Countries and Culture Curriculum, it definitely has been awesome with loads of learning.

This week we will finish our two week studies on Australia.  Try our hand in baking some damper biscuits, work on different crafts, and hear several music and stories from Australia.  Learn about Australia's hot dry forests and animals that live there.  Little man will work on the letters A-F and numbers 0-6, and continue reviewing colors and shapes.

Here is my husband and my art work, we love joining the kids in their crafts.



We made our own version of Koala's out of playdoh instead of the recommended peanut butter and etc.  It was fun seeing the kids version and seeing how much they enjoyed this activity.



After learning about Koalas I printed this worksheet for the kids to color and make their picture of a Koala.



Read about some historical buildings in Australia and then the kids made their own version of the Sydney's Opera House.  Very proud of their work.

Printed this cute pictures of Australia worksheet and some animals you will find there.  The kids really enjoyed it and loved how cute the animals were.

Kids were so happy to find a bearded dragon in one of the books we were reading.

NATURE WALK 


After going for walk around the neighborhood we played a game of "Wet Head" to refresh ourselves.  Love seeing their expressions when they end up getting wet.



My parents surprised us and took the kids and me to "Icemaking ice cream rolls" for a Valentine treat.  It was our first time going and gotta say it was delicious.



By the looks on their faces you can tell they loved the ice cream.

FIELD TRIP



Went to our first Valentine's Day Party at one of our co-op's, the kids made many different crafts and then passed out cards.



Happy with all their goodies.



Second party at the library and they were so excited to win so many prizes.



Third and final party for the week at our other co-op.  D's class made cute crafts and then passed out their cards.



K's class decorated their Valentine bags and then handed out their cards.  Afterwards we all got together and enjoyed some goodies and pizza.

We completed our studies on Australia and have loved every bit of it.  This week has been a very busy week with all the Valentine activities on our schedule.  Learned so much on the culture, their beliefs, the type of food they eat and the way they talk which we all love.  Studied more on coral reefs and the seasons in Australia.  Now unto next week to begin our studies on Antarctica.
