This week we will read about the twelve spies, Early North American cultures, water from the rock, bronze serpent, Moses dies and Joshua is the new leader, Chavin in Peru, and Rhab.  Also will read about the fruit in the promise land, Western Hemisphere before Early Mexican culture, the Olmecs, Peru, and the first North Americans.  Will learn more about water, water in the sea, seawater, saltwater, freshwater, and salt on ice.

Kids did lots of reading, spelling, writing, poems, and paragraph work.

Worked on addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, skip counting, decimals, and conversions.

HISTORY

We read about how Israel rejects Canaan, the Western Hemisphere, migrations to the Americas, the land bridge, arrival of the First Americans, hunters of the Arctic, desert tribes, hunters of the plains, woodland tribes, and the people of ancient Peru.  Also discussed gods and gold, cloth pictures, priests and pottery the Olmecs, gods and games, huge heads, and the end of the Olmecs.  Read more on the twelve men going into the promised land, Joshua becomes Israel's leader, Rehab helps the spies, and the men report on what they found in the promised land.

SCIENCE

Learned more about water, saltwater, freshwater, and did several experiments to better understand the differences between salt and freshwater. 

ART

FIELD TRIPS

Went to Home Depot Kids Workshop and the kids made a Horseshoe Game Board.

Field Trip: Jefferson County Courthouse

FIELD TRIP:  JEFFERSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE 

Went with our co-op group to Jefferson County Courthouse.  We sat in on a settlement hearing, a wedding, kids got to do a mock trial, and went on a tour of the building.  Judge Hammer spoke with the kids about the history of the courthouse and general law topics.  Overall it was a great experience and we learned a lot.
