MFW:  Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 18

This week we will learn more about Daniel Boone, the Revolutionary War, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, the British Colonies, and more on George Washington.  Will also do a study on flowers, it's anatomy, parts of a flower, will dissect some flowers, and learn to preserve some flowers.  After this week we will be taking our Christmas break so D will be doing a lot of reviews this week.

Language Arts 

Larry Boy joined us a lot this week during school.  Concentrated on reading, handwriting, and lots of review this week.





Math 

Reviews on conversation unit, fractions, addition, subtractions, multiplication, and division.






Timeline 



K added Chopin, Revolutionary War, and Daniel Boone to her timeline this week.

History 

We read more on Daniel Boone, the Revolutionary War, Paul Revere, rebellion in Massachusetts, the battle of Bunker Hill, the first congress, John Adams, British colonies, and George Washington.




Science 

Studied all about flowers: dissection, anatomy, parts of a flower, it's families, ways to preserve a flower, and did several experiments.











How the flowers looked after a week in borax.

Art 

Colored a picture of George Washington while I read some information on him, K worked on her lesson 209: Coloring with Tones, and lesson # 210: Sky Studies. 




Music/Video 

Listened to several of Chopin's music and watched a brief history about him.


Field trip 

Ended the week with a trip to Hershey Park to see the Christmas Lights.


















Conclusion 

This week we learned more about Daniel Boone, the Revolutionary War, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, the British Colonies, and more on George Washington.  Also did a study on flowers, it's anatomy, parts of a flower, will dissect some flowers, and learn to preserve some flowers.  After this week we will be taking our Christmas break so D will be doing a lot of reviews this week.  Ended the week looking at Christmas lights and having fun at Hershey Park.  Next week is our Christmas break and will are planning a trip to N.C. to visit our family.

This week we will read about the Spanish Missions, Italy, a Kind and a Painter of Spain, the Corsairs of Algiers, the Turkish Empire and its Sultan, Spain's new colony, Poland, home to China, Alexander Hamilton, John Paul Jones, Olaudah Equiano, and about slaves.  Another name for Jesus: the Lamb of God, Eli Whitney, Tennessee, living things, animal cells, bacteria, germination, monocotyledons, and dicotyledons.

Worked more on reading, handwriting, commands and action words, and filling in the blanks using spelling words.











Math 

Addition, Subtraction, Fraction, Division, Multiplication, and value of money.










Timeline 


Added Eli Whitney invents the Cotton Gin to his timeline. 


Added Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven to her timeline.  

History 

Read about Eli Whitney, Tennessee, cotton, Italy, a King and a painter of Spain, the Corsairs of Algiers, the Turkish Empire and its Sultan, Poland, the Empress and the Sultan, Poland, home to China, Alexander Hamilton, John Paul Jones, and Olaudah Equiano.







Science 

Read about living things, cells, animal cells, bacteria, germination, inside the seed, monocotyledons, and dicotyledons.








For some odd reason our beans didn't sprout, and we tried twice.  Maybe we got a bad batch of red bean.  I'm not sure, we've done this experiment in the past and it worked, might give it another try.  




The one that stayed on the outside turned solid and the one inside the fridge stayed the same.  

Art 

Drew George Washington, a bird, and D colored in his gingerbread man. 




Music/Video 

Listened to the history of Mozart and several of his music, and Patriotic songs of the U.S.A. #5 many flags.

Field trip 

Went to Maryland with the family and learned some of its history and the many wars that happened there.








Conclusion
