MFW: Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 10
This week we will learn about Georgia Colony, General James Oglethorpe, the Universal Laws of Newton and Lock, Scientific Farming, Thomas Jefferson, the Birthday of our country, the story of freedom, 13 colonies, Yankee Doodle, Declaration of Independence, and the United States becomes a country. Also will learn about invertebrates, arthropods, insects, what soaks up water, and disappearing water.
Books
Bible

Language Arts
This we concentrated on spelling, reading, handwriting practice, proper adjective, and adjectives.
Math
Worked on conversation unit, fraction, addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division.
Timeline
Added the Declaration of Independence 1776 and United States Becomes a Country 1776 to the timeline.
History
Read about James Oglethorpe friend of the poor, Georgia the last colony, Thomas Jefferson, the 4th of July story, the Nutcracker Ballet, Yankee Doodle, Declaration of Independence, 13 colonies, George Washington, Scientific Farming, and the Universal laws of Newton and Locke.
Science
Learned about Invertebrates, Arthropods, Insects, did several experiments on things that soak up water, and disappearing water.
Water Skipper Experiment
She really enjoyed reading all about Butterflies and Moths.
Got out our Honey Bee poster K had made for her 4 H group and then observed the different life cycles of different bugs.
Rainbow Sugar, now we have to wait till Monday to see if it will turn to crystals.
Salty Water Test
After about 2 hours we took the plastic off the bowl (Salty Water Test) and the droplets on the plastic tasted like salt water.
Soaking Colors Experiment
Soaked through Experiment and Marble Test Experiment
Art
This week K worked on drawing self-portraits with proportions, and drawing faces from pictures.
Coloring lines in different directions.
Music/Video
Listened to Yankee Doodle
Watched the Disney version of the Nutcracker after the book.
The Story of Mendelssohn
Field trip
Got to experience a cicada molting, such a neat experience and it went great with our lesson this week.
Conclusion
This week we learned about Georgia Colony, General James Oglethorpe, the Universal Laws of Newton and Lock, Scientific Farming, Thomas Jefferson, the Birthday of our country, the story of freedom, 13 colonies, Yankee Doodle, Declaration of Independence, and the United States becomes a country. Also learned about invertebrates, arthropods, insects, what soaks up water, and disappearing water. It has been a fun week and now unto next week to see what adventures are in store for us.
