WORKSHEETS
Working on her handwriting, cursive, identifying objects that begin with the letter Bb, and identifying the beginning letter of words.
Completing her cuisenaire rod worksheets.
Finishing her cut and paste worksheet, blend ladder, and doing some reading.
MATH
Writing the missing numbers.
Doing some adding from her MATH U SEE worksheets.
Counting the 5 pennies which equals a nickel and so far. Great activity for her to learn how many pennies it takes to make a nickel, dime, and quarter.
ARTS & CRAFTS
Kanani traced a couple of butterflies on her paper and then colored them in. She said the one in the middle was the monarch butterfly that we had studied about.
Picked up a packet of 10 wooden butterflies from Dollar Tree and gave them two each to paint. Kanani loves painting so this was a lot of fun for her. Dartanian was into painting the butterflies at first but then decided to paint his hand. Such a great sensory activity for both of them.
I drew a butterfly for Kanani and then she colored it in. She said she knew that butterflies matched on each side (equal sides), but she wanted to make her unique just like she is.
GAMES/ACTIVITIES
Found this wind up book butterfly at Dollar Tree which went great with this unit. After reading "The very hungry caterpillar" we winded up the butterfly and then placed it in between the pages of the book. Kanani opened the book and when she opened the book the butterfly flew out.
SCIENCE
We learned about the life stages of a butterfly. Unfortunately we couldn't do our own butterfly garden due to it being too cold. Once it warms up we will be ordering our caterpillars.
Bought this life cycle at our local Michael's craft store. After discussing the life stages and what each stage was called I gave Kanani the figures and name titles for her to put in order. Once she was done she explained what each stage or process was.
BUTTERFLY GARDEN EXPERIENCE
Here is step by step of the wonderful life cycle of the butterflies:
Butterfly Life Cycle we had to wait once we were done with the MFW K Curriculum due to weather conditions but were very excited that we finally got a chance to experience it.
Today a caterpillar - tomorrow a butterfly. Don't lose hope because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Watched an episode of the "Magic School Bus on butterflies", it was season 2 episode 19.
Got on You Tube and watched a cute video directed towards kids on the Life Cycle of a Butterfly.

This has been a quite a week for us for the everyone suffering a cold. Even though Kanani was sick she insisted on doing her unit on the butterflies. She has always loved learning about butterflies and was saddened we couldn't do our butterfly garden at this time due to it being to cold for them. We are looking forward to ordering our caterpillars once the weather conditions are perfect for them.
