MFW:  1850 to Modern Times and Mia Prep Week 16

This week we will be learning about the Boxer Rebellion in China, Theodore Roosevelt, Panama Canal, Czar Alexander II, Russia, Czar Nicholas II, Russia attempts to seize Korea, Seaside Holiday, Christians in the Boxer Rebellion, and the Rainbow pullover.

Kids read about Henry David Thoreau, worked on writing, spelling, comprehension, Spanish, poetry, and did a lot of reading.







MATH 

Worked on lines and angels, interpret change in exponential models, addition, subtraction, multiplication, subtraction, fraction, ratios, decimals, percentages, conversion measurements, and graphs.






HISTORY

Read about the Spectre of Socialism, the Boxer Rebellion, the Boxer rebels, silver and opium, the Europeans advance, changes in China, the Opium war, the Taiping Rebellion, improving city life, Dayton's city manager system, trying to change, government for the people, other government reforms, state government reform, taking on the trusts, the square deal, regulating foods and drugs, president for change, Theodore Roosevelt, the Panama canal, and two czars and two emperors.











SCIENCE

Learned about counting sig figs, radiant energy, sources of light, light emitting diode, electrifying light, just passing through, opaque, transparent, beams and waves, spectrum of colors, just passing through, shadows, electromagnetic, color spectrum, invisible spectrum, visible spectrum, colorful white, wavelength, ultraviolet, infrared, and animal vision. 








ARTS

In their classes they learned about Theatre Arts: playwrights and dramaturgs, Computer Skills: digital footprints, College Prep: CBC studies, Art: Lesson 219 Peeking into Everyday Life, Craft Class: puzzle ornament, and Music: Guitar and Drum.







FIELD TRIPS

S.T.E.M. class the kids worked on a building a Lego vehicle to go down the zip line, and in Taekwondo the kids earned their 2nd green strip.




CONCLUSION

This week we will learn about U.S. expansion westward, factories, Sino-Japanese War in Korea, moving west,, the growth of the USA, philanthropists, outlaws, and the Korean battle ground.
