MFW: RTR AND LEARNING GOD'S STORY WEEK 1
This week we started 5th and 1st grade, wow time sure does fly. Looking forward to this new school year. Lots of new things for us this year, taking everything one step at a time and always keeping God first. This week we will work on continuing to learn the books of the Bible, where the Bible came from, start learning about our body (cells), Roman Numerals, start learning Latin, lots of handwriting practice including cursive, and learn about the ancient Romans.

Happy to start "My Big Book of 5 minute devotions" again, loved it when we did it the first time with K.
Talked about being wise work hard, love your neighbor as yourself, and be humble.
Worked on the books of the Bible, writers of the Old Testament, and New Testament.

MATH
Found this pizza 100 chart at Target, which the kids couldn't wait to start and add the ingredients to it each day.
D worked on his calendar, weather chart, and number of the day.
Decimal word problems, parallel lines, and adding decimals.
More on parallel lines and rounding decimals.
Turning fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.
Pattern fun, he also identified the shapes and colors.
Counted how many pieces he used to build his object (not sure what exactly he made here), identified the colors and shapes.
Used unifix blocks to make a pattern and then counted how long each roll was.
More fun with his wood pattern blocks.
Found this cute poem "Five Garden Snails" author unknown to add to our Science lesson which also worked great for math. He counted the snails and the birds and identified their colors.
TIMELINE
Started our timeline and added Founding of Rome and Rome becomes a Republic.
HISTORY
Learned about the Rise of Rome, the ancient Romans, and the story of Romulus and Remus.
While reading more on Rome K colored in her worksheet of school in Ancient Rome.
Read about Education and trade in Rome and worked on Roman numberals.
Identified Roman lands on her worksheet.
Learned about the Punic Wars, Hannibal's route, and the Roman Republic.
Learned "What is History?", which is learning about things that happened in the past. Then we made a small scroll with the versus Genesis 1:1 written on it, to show that the Bible was written on a scroll. He was so proud of his scroll that he quickly ran to his dad to show him.
Started reading "Augustus Caesar's World" learning about Janus.
Prepped the kids Wax Writing Tablet Sunday, wanted to make sure it was ready before the kids added their clay to it. They helped knead the clay and spread it inside their tablet.
D was so proud of his writing tablet and quickly began writing different letters and numbers in the clay. He added lots of stickers and colored it after I took the picture.
K loves her tablet and has taken it with her every where. She loves how she can erase what she wrote to write something new. Love the colors she picked out, all neon. Activities like this really help them understand what kids in the past used when they went to school.
SCIENCE
Read about the ants and other insects that are close to the ground. After reading about them we went outside to search for some.
D drew several insects he remembered from his lesson "Close to the Ground".
Bought these posters (2 n 1) at Dollar Tree several years ago, it will go great with our studies of our body for this semester. Of course had to include "Mr. Bones" to our posters.
After reading about several parts of our bodies to the kids I brought out our Felt Learning Assortment for them to get a closer look at it. Got this cute set at Target's Dollar Spot.
Inside your body and circulatory system.
Discussed Animal Cells and identified all the parts of the cell.
I had made a 3D animal cell when she was in 3rd grade and brought it out for her to observe again. She quickly started to identify some of the parts she remembered. I'm sure she will memorize all the parts by the time we finish this school year.
FIELD TRIP/EVENTS
Zeus is always close by, reason why he has 3 beds in the house. One in K's room (she says he's her roommate), one in the living room (where we spend most of our time together, and the other in the basement (where the school and game room is). Our little spoiled puppy with a very big heart.
Went on a nature walk with the family, I look forward to our evening walks, great way to unwind after a long day.
To celebrate our 1st week of school I made the kids their favorite cake "Honeybun Cake", they were so surprised and excited to eat it. We also enjoyed a Roman snack with fruits, nuts, bread, and even added some goldfish. By the time I remembered to take a picture they had already eaten their snack. At least I know they enjoyed it.
CONCLUSION
It has been a great first week back to school. This week we discussed the books of the Bible, where the Bible came from, and what is history. Started learning about our body (cells and cell membranes), Roman Numerals, also started learning Latin, lots of handwriting practice including cursive, and learned about the ancient Romans. Read about different insects and fish and how they are like the underdogs. They work super hard and yet their work usually goes unnoticed. Sometimes we feel that way in our lives, we work so hard and never get recognized for it. But one thing we must remember is that God knows what we are doing and He will bless us. Unto next to see what adventures are in store for us.
