After reading several verses from the Bible we read "My First Thanksgiving by Tomie dePaola".
We made a Thanksgiving Bracelet to help her remember how it all began. Got the story from Dr. Jean and Friends Blog.
THANKSGIVING BRACELET
With this bracelet you know the First Thanksgiving that was long, long ago. (use pipe cleaner to form a bracelet)
The Pilgrims set sail from far away on the Mayflower with tall white sails. (insert white bead)
They sailed many days across the ocean blue. (insert blue bead)
The seas were rough, but the ship came through. At last they spotted land so green. (insert green bead)
The first year was so hard and black. (insert black bead)
Many died and wished that they could go back. But the Nature Americans gave them a hand. And helped them survive in the strange new land. They decided to celebrate in a special way. And that became the First Thanksgiving Day.
They prepared a fest with turkeys brown. (insert brown bead)
And red cranberries that they had found. (insert red bead)
Yellow corn that they learned to grow. (insert yellow bead)
And orange pumpkin pies. (insert orange bead)
But before they ate the turkey and dressings they all held hands for a thankful blessing. (Twist the end of the pip cleaner to make a bracelet)
Cut out different shapes for Kanani to make a turkey puppet. On the feathers I asked her to tell me 5 things she was thankful. After I wrote them on the feather she glued them to the bag. She had lots of fun with her turkey puppet.
Bought this turkey at Dollar Tree, she loved putting it together. It came out cuter than I thought.
Here is another Thanksgiving craft I bought at Dollar Tree.
She wanted the turkey's feather to be all blue, once it was dry she glued the scripture Psalm 107:1. Saw this idea on Happy Home Fairy Page.
Kanani always enjoys coloring coffee filters and then spraying them with water to watch the colors run together. This time we made a turkey and use the coffee filter as the turkey's feather.
We always enjoy doing crafts especially for special occasions. It has been fun listening to some of the things Kanani is thankful for this year. Love it when she says I'm thankful for everything.
I'm definitely thankful for my salvation, family, being a mom, friends, having this wonderful opportunity to be able to homeschool. It has been a great experience so far and a true blessing.
I thank God everyday for everything He has blessed my family and me with.
