MFW:  Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 4

This week we will continue discussing Jesus the light of the world, Henry Hudson, the Dutch settlement, strangers and saints in Plymouth, the thirteen colonies, Miles Standish, the pilgrims, and the Mayflower Compact.  Also will learn about monkeys, apes, aquatic mammals, the Baroque Period, Schubert, Ruben, David and Goliath, and all about different indians and the way they live.

Bible

James 1:1-18

Memory Verse:  ..."I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have light of light."

We made a little lighthouse instead of the candle that was suggested in the teacher's manual.  


Added the light to our names of Jesus board.

Language Arts 

This week we worked on reviewing their spelling words and doing a lot more reading, handwriting practice, pronouns, nouns, adjectives, and memorization.








Math 

Counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  This week there was a lot of review work which helped the kids remember what they've learned last year.  K has been using the calculator to double check her work and she gets so excited when her answers match the calculator's and answer book.  







Timeline 


Added Pilgrims 1620 to our timeline this week.

History 

Read about the first settlers, different types of indians, Henry Hudson, going their separate ways, pilgrims, Native America Pictographs, made tepees and wigwag, Dutch settlement, strangers and saints in Plymouth, 13 colonies, Miles Standish, and played a game of Twig Toss.











Science 

Read all about mammals, monkeys & apes, aquatic mammals, and watched a live video on Varsity Tutor about misunderstood monsters (animals).  Also read all about the sun and gravity and did several experiments to help us better understand the subject.

Art 

Kids did another class with Varsity Tutors but this time with learning how to draw Boss Baby, also worked on lines and shadowing, learned about the Baroque Period, Rubens, and the picture of David & Goliath.






Music/Video 


Watched a short video on dolphins on Brain Pop.  


Listened to God Bless America while doing the Pledge of Allegiance.


#2 Symphony no. 8 in B minor, "Unfinished".

Field trip 


Found this great game to add to our collection of board games "Monopoly Animal Crossing", we have all enjoyed playing Animal Crossing on our Nintendo Switch.


Ended the week and enjoyed some family time at the park, we are determine to go explore the different parks around our area.

 MFW:  Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 3 

This week we will read about King James, Jamestown, French Exploration, John Smith, the French in the New World, Squanto, all about the history of Jesus, and American Pioneers.  Also will learn about the songs of America,  more on air, make a wigman, and about mammals big and small.

Made a window poster with Jesus in the center to remind us about how he died on the cross for our sins.


An easy experiment to demonstrate God's word and how it helps us wash away our sins.  


Language Arts 

Lots of reading, spelling, handwriting practice, quotation mark reviews, pronouns, proofreading, and poems.










Math 

Worked on number values, addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and fraction.









Timeline 

Added Jamestown First Permanent English Settlement 1607 and King James England 1603-1625 to our timeline. 



History 

Read all about James King of Two Countries, the forgotten translation, James, the gunpowder plot of terror, more on John Smith, the royal visit, the starving time, calamity Jamestown, Smith to the rescue, more on the American Pioneers, and the valiant Virginians.







Science 

This week we started our studies with Varsity Tutor, several different Science videos from different teachers in different field.  It has been a joy to watch and we learn a lot from each video.  Also learned more about air, dogs, cats, tigers, sheep, mammals, and horses.







Art 

Learned about The Baroque Period, Family Life, Rubens, and David & Goliath painting, also worked on drawing ovals and circles.




Music/Video 


Listened to #1 Symphony no. 8 in B Minor "Unfinished".


Watched how England set up its first colony in America on Brain Pop.


Short clip on Pocahontas 


Listened to God Bless America this week.  

Field trip 

At the end of the week we went to the park and enjoyed the whole thing on our own.  It was a lot of fun and the weather was pretty nice too. 



Conclusion 

This week we read about King James, Jamestown, French Exploration, John Smith, the French in the New World, Squanto, all about the history of Jesus, and American Pioneers.  Also learned about the songs of America,  more on air, make a wig-man, and about mammals big and small.  Finished 3rd week of school strong and got to enjoy some time at the park.  Now unto next to see what adventures are in store for us.
