MFW: ECC and K4 Week 11

MFW: ECC & K4 WEEK 11

This week we will finish our studies on Brazil and the Rainforest.  Continue our math reviews before we start on new materials next week.  Kids are excited to start one of our co-op groups this week too.  Little man will learn the letter Ww, number 10, rectangle, and will review all the letters he has learned.   Also adding in some sight words for D to start learning how to read and learn all things water.

Brought out one of the stuffed animal of my International Coca-Cola collection.  On the tag:  "Barrot the Parrot is as beautiful as Brazil, the large South American country it represents, where Coca-Cola has been a very popular drink since 1942."

BOOK

Some Brazil books we used this week.

Few water books we used for D's lesson this week.

BIBLE

Memory Verse:  "You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

ARTS & CRAFT

She made a dream catcher in her Global Arts class.  Love that she is taking this class, great review for all of us.

D wanted in on the action and made his own dream catcher, with my help.  He was very proud of his work.

Carnival Dancer Building

Here is our completed dancer works, K made a dancer to which she didn't want tie down so she could change her outfit and play around with her.  D wanted me to form a cat for him instead of a dancer.  I made one (purple and blue) and the kids said she looked like a Native :).

GEOGRAPHY

Made some plane tickets for the kids so they could pretend they were going on the plane.  They are always talking about when they went on the plane to Puerto Rico last month.  Used Music Airport to make their plane tickets.

Added Peru and Argentina kids to our world map this week.

Colored in her Brazil flag worksheet.

SCIENCE

Talked about the many different types of birds in the rainforest and all the beautiful colors they have.

My grandmother in Puerto Rico has several birds one would find in the rainforest.  Found several Coqui's too, love hearing their music especially falling asleep to their song.

Few of the beautiful flowers in my grandmother's garden. Several of which are in the rainforest too.

In his Bug Class D learned about the caterpillar's life cycle.  He was excited to let his teacher know that he already learned about the life cycle and loved making the craft.

After discussing about the many different types of birds in the Rainforest we looked into the life cycle of birds using our Safariology Life Cycle of the Chicken.  D remembered this lesson from a prior lesson, I was really surprised that he remembered everything so well.

Little man is reviewing water this week so after explaining the water cycle we made our own rain in a jar.  This is an experiment the kids love to do all the time.

After talking to the kids about how birds have oil on their feathers which help them stay dry when it rains or on in a pond we did a quick experiment to explain it better.   The kids covered one of their feathers (made out of construction paper) with cooking oil and the other with water.  Then they placed a few drops of the water on the one with oil on it and watched how the water came right off.

Took all the feathers we had collected, most from when we went to Puerto Rico (my grandmother's birds), and observed them under the magnifying glass.

NATURE WALK

Kids started their PE class "Move It" in their co-op this week.

They will be learning about different ways to exercise and have fun.

VIDEOS

Watched several episodes of "The Magic School Bus" to go with our lessons this week (Season 3 Episode 11 and Season 4 Episode 2).

MUSIC

Los Pollitos by Gallina Pintadita

FIELD TRIP

The kids haven't been feeling well this week, allergies hit them hard.  We just stayed home this week and tried to relax after completing our school work.

We completed our studies on Brazil and the Rainforest this week.  It has been so fun learning so much about a beautiful country.  Started sight word with D to get him more into reading.  Doing 5 words at a time till he can read them on his own then we will add more to his list.  So far he seems to really like and learn pretty fast the words.  Unto next week to start our studies on Norway.

GOD BLESS!!!
