My Father's World: Unit 8 Dinosaur

MFW: Unit 8 Dinosaur

BIG AND SMALL, GOD MADE THEM ALL

We just love dinosaurs

BOOKS

Some of the great books we went over in this unit.

WORKSHEETS

Handwriting practice and the letter Dd sound identification.

Top left picture I gave Dartanian some rocks to play with, he kept taking the rocks out of the container and putting them back.  A simple activity to keep him busy while doing some school work with Kanani. Top right picture Kanani is working on her cuisenaire rods worksheets.  Bottom left she is identifying the letter D cards.  Bottom right we are working on some cvc words.

More handwriting practice

Counting, cut and paste practice

Decided to try some spelling with Kanani (first time), I would say a word and see if she could identity what vowel it went with and then write the rest of the word out.  Gotta say for it to be her first she did really good.  We did 10 the first time and got 8 correct.

First I would say the word I wanted her to write and then she would draw it: sad, mad, dad, and add.

Kanani first read the words and then I would say the word and tell her what to do for each one.

MATH

Working on some adding with her MATH U SEE worksheets.

ARTS & CRAFT

Took some dinosaurs and had her place their feet in paint to make dino prints.  She really enjoyed this activity.

After looking through our dinosaur workbook (bought it at Target)
Kanani picked 2 dinosaurs to draw.

Found some wooden dinosaur shapes at Dollar Tree which went perfect for out unit this week.  The kids always enjoy painting.

She made a momma dino with a baby dino

We made this dinosaur and first had her identify the shapes and then glue the together.  They hung it on our chimney.

GAMES/ACTIVITIES

Made some dinosaurs out of kinetic sand with dino molds we had.

She loves playing with dinosaurs.  Found this great dino mat at a thrift store.

SCIENCE

We watched several videos that had dinosaurs

It's always fun when we do the backing soda and vinegar experinment.  she wanted to add dinosaurs to the experiment.

Hid some dinosaur bones in our sticky sand mixture

A great poster I found at our local Dollar Tree

This came with the poster above (2 for 1)

Had Kanani try to identify some of the dinosaurs we have with the ones on the posters.

PET

Here is our personal pet a bearded dragon who we consider our personal dinosaur.  He was my birthday gift in 2013, Kanani was only 3 when we got.  She named him Larry Boy after the Veggie Tales Larry.  Not the name I would of chosen but she was so excited to name him that we kept the name.  He's been a wonderful addition to our family.

Saw this picture while strolling through some pictures of dinosaurs.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Bizet: Carmen Suite no. 2 ("Habanera")

This week has been a tough week for us due to health issues.  Came at the worst time since we were so excited about this week and had waited anxiously for this week to finally arrive.  Even had a field trip in mind to go enjoy that dealt with dinosaurs.  Little man and me ended up with bronchitis, but the best thing about homeschooling is that we can always make up what we didn't do this week next week.

Hope you enjoy our dinosaur unit, it didn't go as planned but that didn't stop us from learning and having fun.

GOD BLESS!
