MFW:  RtR (5th Grade) and AHL (9th Grade) Week 1

After two months off of school we are back to our routine.  This is the first year since we have started homeschooling that we took such a long break, it was refreshing.  Had family in town visiting, which is why we had such a long break, its always fun when family is around. This week we will be doing some review in Spanish, start learning Latin, read about the founding of Rome, the Roman Republic, Punic Wars, and the Fall of the Roman Republic.  Also read about the existence of God, creation, sin, cells, organs, inside your body, building blocks, and cell membranes.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Kids worked on spelling, writing, cursive, essays, introduction to writing a thesis, comprehension, and lots of reading.













MATH

Ordered new workbooks for K's math, the ones I had ordered were actually just practice test workbooks.  They arrive next week, so I told her she'll have a break of math so she can concentrate on her essay.  D is learning about decimals, ten thousandth place, counting bigger numbers, and measurements.



HISTORY

Read about the existence of God, Is there a God?, why we shouldn't accept millions of years of creation, evolution, gap of ruin reconstruction theories, God created everything in six days, the beginning, and creation.  Also read about the rise of Roman, Roman expansion, the early Roman republic, Italy conquered, the Punic wars, the republic expands, fall of the Roman republic, and problems facing the republic.

SCIENCE

Will be learning about the inside your body, small cells, cell shapes, staying alive, body parts, cell membrane, building blocks, taste and smell, and nose job.  Learn about characteristics of live, organization, homeostasis, response to a stimulus, reproduction and heredity, growth and development, metabolism, adaptation, and organization of life.

We enjoyed the Science Lab at the library this week.  Learned about air pressure, what are catalysts and polymers, water cannon, and a toilet tornado.

CONCLUSION
