My Father's World: Unit 7 Us

MFW: Unit 7 Us

GOD MADE US WONDERFUL

God made us special and He loves us very much!

Some of our letter Uu treasures

BOOKS

Some of the wonderful books we used for this unit

WORKSHEETS

Upper right picture she is using the letter Uu sandpaper cards.  In the right pictures she is practicing writing the letter Uu and the bottom left picture she is counting and writing the number 7.

Handwriting practice and identifying letter sounds.

Color recognition (green and blue) and cut and paste practice.

Enjoying her cuisenaire rods

Doing some cvc words with our blend ladder.

I have Kanani try to read the words first then give her different instructions for each word. For example: Circle the word "SUN" with the color yellow. She wanted to write each word below, which is a plus. Then we worked on her blend ladder.

She is completing the drawing worksheet for letters U, T, and L.

We were given a booklet about the different kinds of touch.  It's so important for us to let our kids know right and wrong ways of touching.  How to say NO to what is wrong and be able to tell someone whe someone does touch them in the wrong way.

MATH

Left pictures she is placing the Popsicle sticks in the correct order.  We have been using the sticks for our 100 count down.  As each day passes I write the number of the day we are on.  The right picture she is working on her Math U See worksheet.

Started learning how to add this week

ARTS & CRAFT

We first learned about the Touch Sense and talked about how God made us special and unique.  No one has the same fingerprints.

Kanani got these stencils for her birthday, it went perfect with our US unit.  She made a self portrait of herself.

ACTIVITIES/GAMES

Practicing our sequence and pattern, found these cards at one of our local thrift stores.  Made the shapes out of foam, you can find some similar cards at the Learning Resource website.

Placed different objects into some Easter eggs.  Put one of each object on the table so Kanani could match the sound with the object.  She got 8 out of 10 correct.  We played this game several times.

We talked different Community Helpers and how each person no matter what type of job they do is very important to the community.  Then we discussed what she wants to be when she grows up: a veterinarian.

We have always loved the story "Elmer the Elephant", it's a great lesson about accepting yourself for who are and not trying to be something or someone you are not.  Watched the video on You tube and read the book.

First she closed her eyes and tired to draw a picture of a person, then she opened her eyes and drew another person.  She then observed each picture and explained the difference between the two.  Also explained how hard it was to draw with her eyes closed and how easier it is to draw with her eyes opened.

After reading this cute book "Veggietales: God made you Special", she used the mirror in the back of the book to draw a self portrait of herself.

So excited to have received this book in the mail today, talk about perfect timing.  It went great with our unit, little man loved looking through the pages after I read the book to him.

After reading one of our favorite books this week "The mixed-up Chameleon by Eric Carle", Kanani made the chameleon out of play-doh and explained to me how he needs to accept himself for who he is.  God made him special and that should be good enough for him.

For our sight sense activity I picked out 10 different items and lined them on the table.  Had Kanani observe each item, then she closed her eyes, and I would take one object away.  She would then tell me what was missing.

SCIENCE

Found this placemat at our local school supply store "School Tools", came in handy for our US unit.  The bottom section are the 5 senses, which Kanani liked being able to see it in details.

Made a lap book with one side for the touch sense and the other side identifying where the five senses are.  Had her close her eyes and tell me what she felt and see if she could recognize what the objects were.

Discussed how God has made everyone different and unique.  We are all children of God.  John 3:!6 For God so loved the world that He gave he's only son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have ever lasting life.

Read some more books about how there are many different people in the world.  We just love our little people figurines.

Kanani walked around the living the room and searched for different objects and feel the different textures.  She would explain how the objects felt and what she likes about it.

Gave little man one of his favorite books "Baby Touch and Feel Wild Animals".  Loved watching him flip through the pages and feel each picture.  He would concentrate on each picture and take a few minutes to study each page.

I placed 5 different things into some cups and then covered it with aluminum foil with some holes on top.  She would smell each one and then write down what she thought it was in her science journal.  Kanani actually got 4 out of 5 correct, the vanilla threw her off.
1.  Apple
2.  Pringles
3.  Vanilla Extract
4.  Cinnamon
5.  Gold fish

To go with this book I printed out this booklet.  Each day we would talk about a different sense and she would color it and then write the sense we were working on.

Learning about touch and hearing while practicing her writing.

Learned about smell and sight while practicing her writing.

Learning about taste while practicing her writing.  We actually did a taste activity but I couldn't take pictures at the time.  I had 5 different items for her to taste while her eyes were closed: chocolate, cheese, popcorn, an orange and an apple.  She would try to identify what each item was.  We first did it with her eyes closed and nose closed (she would pinch her nose so she couldn't smell anything), and then she was allowed to smell.

After learning about the sight sense I took out the microscope for Kanani to observe some slides and tell me what she observed in each slide.
Top row: Kanani observing the slides, Rabbit Spinal Cord, c.s., and Dog Skeletal, Muscle.
Bottom roll: Human Blood smear, Onion Epidermis w.m., and Dog Stomach sec.

GEOGRAPHY

After reading our book about the world we started discussing different types of people around the world.  We talked about what our difference and similarities between everyone.  She loved pointing to the map and telling me where we lived and where different family and friends live.

POEM

I'M GLAD
   By: Author Unknown

I'm glad the sky is painted blue,
And the earth is painted green,
With such a lot of nice fresh air
All sandwiched in between.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Bach: Violin Concerto no. 1 in a Minor

This is happen a great unit, we have enjoyed learning about how God made us special and unique.  Just like fingerprints, where no two are alike, we are as unique.  Best part God loves us just they way we are, so we should love ourselves the same way.

Hope you enjoy our US unit.

GOD BLESS!
