ACTIVITIES

Poured some water with food coloring into 6 cups at different levels. The kids then used plastic drum sticks to tap the sides of each cup and hear the different sounds each one would make.

Brought out the xylophone for him to play some music and hear how they would make different sounds

Placed different objects in plastic eggs for the kids to shake and try to identify what was inside them.

Learning about the color green

Before breakfast little man asked to play with the rainbow pasta, he really enjoyed pouring the past in and out of the containers.  Kanani said it sounded like thunder when he poured the pasta.

Distinguishing between what makes sound and what doesn't

Listening to the sound of popcorn popping and then enjoying the snack

Lately whenever he picks out a book or sees an animal he makes the sound the animal makes.

INDEPENDENCE DAY FUN

Making fireworks with toilet paper roll and paint

Kids enjoyed making their own Patriotic Suncatchers

Mixed together some baking soda, water, and food coloring into star molds and placed them in the freezer for 2 days.  Popped them out in the bin and the kids squirted them with a bottle filled with vinegar. They listened to the fizzing sounds it would make once the vinegar hit the baking soda.  Very fun experiment to do with the kids.

FIELD TRIP

Went to the library for story time on fireworks

The kids worked on making fireworks with glue and glitter

They were so proud of their completed masterpiece.

END OF THE WEEK

These silly kids decided to wear one of my shirts :)

MFW Learning God's Story: Week 9

MFW: LEARNING GOD'S STORY WEEK 9

This week we will be learning about the or, ir, and wor sound, bible land maps, thunder and lighting storms, and how to control our anger.

BOOKS

Great books for the week

BIBLE

Learned that hippos are one of Africa's most dangerous animals, their temper is what makes them so dangerous.  There are times that people have nasty tempers like the hippos.  They hurt other people and at times even lose friends along the way.  God wants us to be friends to everyone and settle our differences peacefully.

We talked about Bighorn sheep in our devotion and learned that they live high in the mountains and not very friendly at all.  When the male bighorn sheep (Rams) become angry they fight by slamming their heads together.  Some people are like rams and like to fight sometimes bullying other people who are younger or smaller they are.  God wants us to be the type of people who settle their problems with good words .

Wildcats may look like your regular house cat but are very dangerous and powerful.  They are very territorial and fierce fighters.  Some people may seem friendly at first but when they become angry they say and do things they later regret.  Don't let anger take control of you and your actions try to work things out peacefully.

BIBLE VERSE

Memory verse: A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.
~Proverbs 29:11

Stop your anger! Turn from your rage!  Do not envy others-it only leads to harm.
~Psalm 37:8

And don't sin by letting anger gain control over you.  Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a mighty foot hold to the Devil.
~Ephesians 4:26-27

MATH

On Saturday we did a yard sale at my mom's house and Kanani asked if she could do a Lemonade stand.  This was the perfect way for her to practice for her math and get ready for her store.  Loved how excited she was while selling her lemonade which we added Strawberry Kool-Aid and Raspberry Lemonade.  Most of the customers would pay her $1 instead of $0.50 and would congratulate her for working so hard.  I'm so proud of her work in just 2 hours of working she made $10.

Addition fun

Horizontal addition

It has been so much fun playing store and seeing how great her math has gotten.

ARTS & CRAFTS

Reviewing on part 3 of her abstract art.

ACTIVITIES

Set a store area for the math lesson this week.  The top roll of the toy bins (top left picture) is where the foods are: fruits, vegetable, and basic food like chicken, eggs, etc.  Second roll are toy figurines, she said she need to have toys in her store because that's the best part of a store.  Third roll are small blocks which they use to thread shoe laces through, tower blocks, binoculars, and foam letter, numbers, and shapes.  The bottom roll holds different sizes of blocks.

Top right picture is where the Melissa & Doug food that you can cut, box goods, and can goods.  The kitchen area is where she said she will cook food for her customers and the chalkboard is where the hours of her store is.

Before breakfast little man wanted to play with the rainbow pasta. They played with the pasta while I made them breakfast.  Kanani said the pasta sounded like thunder as she was pouring it.

Placed different objects in plastic eggs for the kids to shake and try to identify what was inside them.

SCIENCE

Little man is learning about the sound sense which works great with our lighting/thunder storm unit.  I set up a xylophone water glass for the kids to use the sticks to hear the different sounds each cup makes because of the different levels of water.

"Will the wind blow it?" experiment, lots of fun blowing different items to see if she could move it.

Listened to popcorn popping which sounds like lighting and then enjoyed a yummy snack.

you will at some point
have to juggle lightning
and taste the thunder.
