MFW: RtR and Learning Gods Story Week 3

MFW:  RTR AND LEARNING GOD'S STORY WEEK 3

We are in for a very fun week learning about flowers, parts of flowers, dissect flowers, Four Seasons, balance act of our body, regulator temperature in our body, and quick action stimulus.  Work on different art forms, one-point perspective, vantage point, and copy art.  Read about Bloody Fingerprints, candles and holly berries, Festival of Lights, Herod (future King of the Jews), Philippi and the Ghost, Antony and Octavian and how they divide the world, and Horace and the country mouse.  Start working on Phoneme Segmentation with D and more reading and spelling words.

Latin words of the week: QUINQUE (five) and SEX (six)


Worked more on pronouns, learned about antecedent, and more handwriting practice with cursive.


Pronoun Agreement and cursive handwriting practice.

Finished his letter handwriting worksheet for his scroll and worked on a few spelling words and handwriting skills.


Excited to have completed his letter scroll, it's almost as long as him.

Placed 3 different items in a pile for him to divide and place in groups.


Started our bean cup this week, placing 10 beans on a stick at a time, this will go with our number of the day activity till we reach 100.


Placing words into groups.


Grouping words worksheet and counting to 12 with different objects.


Read "Madeline by Ludwig Demelmans" and then worked on counting to number 12.

TIMELINE

HISTORY 


Studied about the town of Pompeii, gardens, mosaics, and frescoes.


Read about Rome and the war, the festival of lights, and Herod (the future of the Jews).


While reading "Augustus Caesar's World" she colored her worksheets on the people who were living during that time.


Read about Philippi and the Ghost, Anthony & Octavian divide the world, and Horace & the country mouse.  Also read about Antony and Cleopatra. 


Coloring another a page of people who lived when Octavian was a general.


Labeling and coloring in her map of lands that were controlled by Octavian and Antony, and the Mediterranean Sea.


Her mosaic creation of our dog Zeus, she used pieces of tissue paper.

SCIENCE 


Two out of five beans have sprouted, hopefully the other three will start soon.


Planted two of the bean seeds, hopefully they will continue to flourish.  


Since we are studying about flowers we bought some white carnations to make our own experiment.  Placed a few drops of food coloring into test tubes (bought these at Dollar Tree) and filled it with water.  The kids placed 4 carnations into the each tube.  We've done this experiment before and love watching how the flowers change color.  


Read about flowers and then studied our poster on the parts of flowers I got at Dollar Tree.  


Kids picked several flowers they found in the yard to observe under the microscope.

Dissected several flowers to see the parts of it under a microscope and then the kids would show me what parts they observed on the poster.


Center of gravity: point at which an object balances.


Experiment to demonstrate the body's automatic balance responses.


Experiment to demonstrate that sensations of cold or hot can be deceiving by placing one hand in ice cold water and warm water and then placing both in the room temperature water.


Identifying different neurons and receptors in our bodies.


Studying conditioned reflex that causes the pupil to constrict, or become smaller by doing two different experiments.  One with a flashlight and bell and another throwing an object to see how the eyes react.  


Observing the Muscular and Nervous System.


Reviewed about the Four Seasons and D made a booklet while K colored in a worksheet.


Printed this cute Four Season booklet from This Reading Mama website for him to understand each change the seasons go through.

ART

Copy art exercise, I was quite surprised how much he enjoyed this and how well he did.  

MUSIC/VIDEOS


Continued to master "Merrily we roll along", and started on learning new notes.


Printed these worksheets for the kids to color of Franz Joseph Haydn
while listening to Haydn.


Watched two episodes of "The Magic School Bus: Gets Planted (Season 2 Episode 2) & Flexes Its Muscles (Season 3 Episode 11)".


On Netflix we watched "Ask the Story Bots: How do Flowers Grow? (Season 2 Episode 7)  and Sid the Science Kid: Muscle Boy Sid (Season 1 Episode 37) & That's Using your Brain (Season 1 Episode 40).  Also watched a short film of the Great Civilization of the Ancient World: Ancient Rome Revised on Amazon Prime.

FIELD TRIP/EVENTS 


After a long week of studying and working hard the kids enjoyed some time playing some video games with their dad.  

Didn't go any where this week just enjoyed some time together watching movies, playing video games, and just hanging out.  Cherish our time together and would rather be doing this then visiting many different places.  

CONCLUSION
