MFW:  Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 5

This week we will continue our studies on let our light shine, trusting God, Miles Standish, hornbook, Roger Williams, and the pilgrims.  Also learn about marsupials, Charles Darwin, Gerrit Dou, painting with a golden light, close star, constellations, and the big dipper.

Books


Few of the books we used this week.

Bible

James 1:1-11

John 8:12

John 1:9

John 3:19-21

Revelation 21:1-7, 22-23

Job 38:12, 32-33



Made a window hanging plate with the words "Jesus is the light of the world" written on it.  Great reminder during these dark times.

Language Arts 

This week we focused on reading, handwriting, and spelling.








Math 

Did lots of word problems, addition, subtraction, fractions, and division.  








Timeline 


D added Pilgrims 1620 to his timeline this week.

History 

We read about Massachusetts Bay Colony, Rhode Island Colony, Salem Witchcraft Trials, Miles Standish, Roger Williams, American Pioneers and Patriots, kids finished the week making an oiled window.


Pledge of Allegiance 





Made her own hornbook.







Science 

This week the kids got to do two classes with Varsity Tutor on ancient civilizations and sharks.   Also learned about marsupials, kangaroos, the sun, constellations, and even enjoyed going outside and search for and identify the constellations.  










Art 

Learned about Gerrit Dou, painting with golden light, D did several art projects (which I forgot to get pictures of) drawing straight lines and shadowing. 



Music/Video 


Listened to #2 America 


Listened to Symphony no. 9 in C Major, "Great": #3 I. Andante: Allegro na non troppo and #4 II. Andante con moto.


Watched a mini clip about Charles Darwin on Brain Pop App. 

Field trip 


Few weeks ago K joined the braces club, at first she was really sore and in pain but now she is used to them.  She smiles more and is happier with how her teeth are turning out.  




Ended the week with a trip to the pool, kids loved having the pool to ourselves for the most part.  Once more people started arriving we left and enjoyed the playground.

Conclusion 

This week we continued our studies on let our light shine, trusting God, Miles Standish, made a hornbook, Roger Williams, and learned more on about the pioneers and the pilgrims.  Also learned about marsupials, Charles Darwin, Gerrit Dou, painting with a golden light, close star, constellations, and the big dipper.  Its been a fun week full of learning, now unto next to see what adventures are in store for us.
