Dinosaur Unit

This week we studied Dinosaurs, which is always a favorite.

HERBIVOROUS & CARNIVOROUS

e

Went over what are Herbivorous and Carnivorous Dinosaurs.

HISTORY

Learned about the history of dinosaurs and different places they come from.  All dinosaurs live in different area like the animals here with us.  Some live on land, water, and air.

IDENTIFYING & HISTORY

K took the dinosaurs we have and matched them to the poster we have to try and identify them.  Afterwards we read about where each one lived, ate, and did.

CAPSULES

Found these at the Dollar Tree which goes perfect with our unit.  These growing capsules are always fun.  We tried identifying them before looking at the card, and then painted with them.

BUILDING DINOSAURS

Found these beauties at Dollar Tree, you can probably tell by now I just love the Dollar Tree.  It was so much fun watching her follow the instructions to build these dinosaurs.

FROZEN DINOS

Got some water balloons and placed a dinosaur in it.  Then filled it with water and froze it overnight.

BREAKING THE ICE

Went outside and got a hammer to break the dinosaurs free.  She loved doing this and asked me to freeze more.

EXCAVATION

Another great find at the Dollar Tree.  This does take a lot of work, I would recommend for older kids.  It takes lots of patience.  Of course her daddy and me helped and once we got to the dinosaur we let her finish the rest.

DRAWING

K took three of her dinosaurs and decided to try to draw them.  Another project she decided to do on her own.  Love it when she takes the initiative.

SEARCHING FOR DINO'S

Got out some stick sand and covered several eggs that had dinosaurs inside with the sand.  She couldn't wait to dive right in and look for the eggs.

She dove right in and got to work searching for the eggs.  K really got excited each time she found one.

Even little D got in on the action

DINOSAUR TRACKS

Dipped the dinosaurs feet in paint and then pressed it on paper to see their tracks.

DINOSAUR EGGS

Mixed baking soda with water enough to form a clay like substance, then covered the dinosaurs with it.  Once they were covered I gave K a bottle filled with vinegar to look for the dinosaur.  She really enjoys doing projects like these.
