My Father's World: Unit 15 Elephant

MFW: Unit 15 Elephant

I WILL REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR ME.

Our letter Ee treasures

Looking over the treasures she helped find and explaining each item.

BOOKS

Some of the wonderful books we read for our elephant unit.

Such a great book with a wonderful lesson for everyone of all ages.  Teaching us to not only just give advice to our friends to help our friends.  Sometimes giving advice is not the only thing our friends need.

Some more wonderful books we read for this unit.

WORKSHEETS

Working on her handwriting and tracing lines.

Writing the missing letter for each word and then working on her word search.

Working on some more writing, identifying pictures that start with the letter Ee, reading, and connecting the dots (1-30).

Finished her worksheets of reading, drawing, story, and her blend ladder.

MATH

Forming 314 with her Math U See manipulatives.

Placing the 10s in the correct order and then identifying the numbers.

Putting the popsicle sticks in order, we use these for our 100 count.  Add a new number each day.  Today we were working on numbers 1-20.

Working on recognizing the numbers by 10s.

She was very excited to complete her Math U See worksheet without any help and correctly.  We had actually done this lesson last week, but I felt that she didn't understand or grasp it last week so we are redoing it again this week.  I'm so proud that she finally understands it.  The other picture she is working on numbers 21-40.

ARTS AND CRAFT

Once we were done with the movie we made our own Noah's Ark.

I drew a picture of an elephant for Kanani to decorate however she wanted.  She decided all she wanted to do was color it 3 different colors: blue, pink, and silver.  Such a beautiful colorful elephant.

After reading the story "Elmer by David McKee" the kids colored in their little Elmer elephant, and then asked them what makes them one of a kind.  Got this cute idea from Tunstalltimes Blog.

When we finished the story of "Horton hears a Who! by Dr. Seuss" we made our own Horton handprint with the quote "A person's a person no matter how small!".

She really enjoyed her elephant puppet and elephant mask she made.

We finished the unit talking about the best love in the world, Jesus dying on the cross for our sins.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

She finished doing this beautiful sun catcher.  Can't wait to put it on the window and see the sun shine through it.

ACTIVITIES/GAMES

Placed 4 of our grow capsules in water hoping to get an elephant, Kanani guessed which one it would be and she was correct.

Reviewed all of our memory versus using our unit puppets.  Out of 15 she got 13 correctly, she has worked so hard to try to memorize each one.  So proud of all her hard work, she's really enjoying these puppets.

Working on her elephant puzzle.

Discussed the story about Noah's Ark.  It's always a great to review what we have learned before.  Love how she remembers all the details of this wonderful story of the bible.

Kanani then started to work on her puzzle of Noah's Ark after she was done with her craft.

Enjoyed a great game of animal dominoes.

SCIENCE

Identifying some of the elephant's body parts.

MOVIES/VIDEOS

After reading and discussing the story of Noah's Ark we watched the wonderful movie of "Veggie Tales Noah's Ark".

Trust God and he's plan, because when God says he'll do something he'll do it.  For God knows what's best.

Psalm 33:4

For the word of the Lord is right and true; He is faithful in all he does.

Can't finish elephant unit without watching the Disney movie "Dumbo", such a heart warming movie.

MEMORY VERSUS

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
~Romans 5:8~

POEM

AT THE ZOO
     By: A.A. Milne

There are lions and roaring tigers, and enormous camels and things,
There are buffalo, buffalo, bisons, and a great big bear with wings.
There's a sort of tiny potamus, and a tiny nosserus too.
But I gave buns to the elephant when I went down to the zoo!

There are badgers and bidgers and bodgers, and a Superintendent's house,
There are masses of goats, and a polar, and different kinds of mouse.
And I think there's a sort of something which is call a wallaboo-O.
But I gave buns to the elephant when I went down to the zoo!

If you try to talk to the bison, he never quite understands.
You can't shake hands with a mingo-he doesn't like shaking hands.
And lions and roaring tigers hate saying. How do you do?
But I gave buns to the elephant when I go down to the zoo!

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Bach: Brandenburg Concerto no. 4 in G Minor (II. Andante)

Elephants are such magnificent animals.  They are gentle giants of the world.  Love everything about them, one of Kanani's favorite animals and my beautiful grandmother's.  My grandmother believes if you face the elephant backward (their face facing the wall) it will bring good luck.  She collects them and has them all facing the wall.

Hope you enjoy our elephant unit.

GOD BLESS!!
