Into our world

Welcome to our homeschool.  I'm going to show you the inside of where most of our learning take place.  Mind you that where we have school is in a multi purpose room.  It serves as our living room, play room, and school.  I baby-sit during the day (8 am-5 pm), so things can sometimes get hectic around here.  It definitely keeps things interesting.

Storage area

Here we have all our supplies for school, arts & crafts, office, and some misseoulous stuff.

Dry erase board on one side and a chalk board on the other side.

One of the best things about the dry erase board is that it's magnetic.  Which is perfect for Leap Frog Letter Magnetics that little man loves to play with.

Computer section and math section

Here is where Kanani does her computer work like ABC mouse.  We are working on learning how to count to 100 and to recognize our numbers.

Bins

In the first bin is some wooden blocks, second bin are two sound books and shapes & numbers cookie jar, and in the third bin contain an assortment of animals.  In between the bins are shape sorters.  The little enjoy pulling out the bins and playing with the toys.

Toy bins

Here is where the kids play the most.  There are a variety of toys which gets rotated out bi-weeklyz. The kids love to sit in the Elmo chair to look at books.

Work stations

I normally only keep two items on each self but I was in process of moving things around.  On the topic the shelf I normally only put things that person the subject of the week. We are also working on punctuation marks.

Buckets

Here is where we keep our buckets each having a different subject.  On top of the shelf is the experiment kit, globe, and the 4 Seasons trees.

Library

Our wonderful library!!  It also stores our blocks and our foam solar system.

Kitchen

Here's the kitchen area.  The only thing missing is the food chart that goes on the wall.

Everything shelf

We store our puzzles, games, and sensory bins.  On the wall is where she is learning to skip count & learn what amount each money is worth.

Here's a little of our world.  Although there's nothing better than being outside in nature.  We love the great outdoors.

Till next time hope you enjoyed.

Welcome to our adventures in Homeschooling

A little bit about myself:  I'm a stay at home mom (SAHM), which I never thought I would be.  We have two beautiful children, my daughter K who is 4 and my son D who is 10 months old.  They both were born April 11, something we never planned.  We say it was God's plan, we always said we wanted two kids or twins.  God gave us two (kinda of like twins) 4 years apart.  They were both due April 16.  They are our miracle babies.  The reason I say that is because I've always been told I couldn't have children, and the day I would want to would be either impossible or a lot of work.  God proved the doctors wrong.  Love how God loves to show off and prove people wrong.

We always said "we'll leave this in God's hand, if it's His will He will make this happen".  Never had any doubt that God would bless us with children, either biologically or through adoption.  We can't thank God enough for our two blessings He has given us to guide in his ways.

Making this blog to document and hopefully help others who are starting or are thinking about homeschooling.   We're new to homeschooling, something I never thought we would do either.  We prayed a lot about homeschooling my daughter K.  I had started teaching her the basics since she was 1 and a half year old.  To see her soak up everything I taught her and see how fast she learned had really inspired me to continue in teaching. I actually started college in Early Education but then switched to a major in Biology/Chemistry.

I used to think that I couldn't home school because I didn't have a degree in Early Learning or didn't have some kind of degree in teaching.  Boy was I wrong.  I did a lot of research and talked to many different people about their experience with homeschooling.  The more information I got the more the desire grew into teaching my daughter.  I prayed to God and asked him to please give me a sign if this was the path He wanted us to take.

Called around to different schools (7 in total) and got her tested for Pre-school.  Everyone I talked to denied her joining their pre-school program.  They all said there was nothing more they could teach her and it would either bore her or make her fall behind.  Two schools said "You keep doing what you are doing with her, for it's definitely working'.  I was in shock, never have I heard that a child knew too much to go to school.  Right there was my answer or confirmation that it was meant for me to home school our precious princess.

It hasn't been an easy task but it sure is a rewarding one.  Especially when you see your child finally pick up or learn something that you've been working on together.  The best part of all this is to be able to stay home with my children, watch them grow and learn.  It has been hard especially financially.  Going from a two income home to one.  But the pros definitely out do the cons, I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

We have enrolled her in the program ABC Mouse, since December of 2014.  She has loved it since the beginning.  She's already on Level 4 within 3 months.  We've seen her grow so much since starting the program.  Her interest in learning how to read has also increased, which was one of my concerns.  We had our doubts at first about the program, but now we highly recommend it.

We finally decided on a new curriculum for Kindergarten and I'm very excited to start. After some extensive research we decided on My Father's World.  The best part it's a Christian curriculum, which is very important to our family.  We are a Christ centered family.  God first, family second.  Now for math we are going to incorporate Math U See.  I believe it would be more of a challenge  for her than the one that come with her curriculum.  Also love how my husband is even excited about the program.  When it finally arrived we opened it quickly and got so excited.  R started talking about wanting to do the different activities with her.  Which is what I wanted from the beginning.

I'm so grateful to have such a supported husband who not only backed up my decision to quick my job to be a stay at home when my daughter was born, but has also supported my decision to home school my daughter and my son when he becomes of age.  I couldn't have done it without his love and support.

Pray you enjoy our adventures of homeschooling!!!

God Bless!!!
