Welcome to our adventures in Homeschooling

A little bit about myself:  I'm a stay at home mom (SAHM), which I never thought I would be.  We have two beautiful children, my daughter K who is 4 and my son D who is 10 months old.  They both were born April 11, something we never planned.  We say it was God's plan, we always said we wanted two kids or twins.  God gave us two (kinda of like twins) 4 years apart.  They were both due April 16.  They are our miracle babies.  The reason I say that is because I've always been told I couldn't have children, and the day I would want to would be either impossible or a lot of work.  God proved the doctors wrong.  Love how God loves to show off and prove people wrong.

We always said "we'll leave this in God's hand, if it's His will He will make this happen".  Never had any doubt that God would bless us with children, either biologically or through adoption.  We can't thank God enough for our two blessings He has given us to guide in his ways.

Making this blog to document and hopefully help others who are starting or are thinking about homeschooling.   We're new to homeschooling, something I never thought we would do either.  We prayed a lot about homeschooling my daughter K.  I had started teaching her the basics since she was 1 and a half year old.  To see her soak up everything I taught her and see how fast she learned had really inspired me to continue in teaching. I actually started college in Early Education but then switched to a major in Biology/Chemistry.

I used to think that I couldn't home school because I didn't have a degree in Early Learning or didn't have some kind of degree in teaching.  Boy was I wrong.  I did a lot of research and talked to many different people about their experience with homeschooling.  The more information I got the more the desire grew into teaching my daughter.  I prayed to God and asked him to please give me a sign if this was the path He wanted us to take.

Called around to different schools (7 in total) and got her tested for Pre-school.  Everyone I talked to denied her joining their pre-school program.  They all said there was nothing more they could teach her and it would either bore her or make her fall behind.  Two schools said "You keep doing what you are doing with her, for it's definitely working'.  I was in shock, never have I heard that a child knew too much to go to school.  Right there was my answer or confirmation that it was meant for me to home school our precious princess.

It hasn't been an easy task but it sure is a rewarding one.  Especially when you see your child finally pick up or learn something that you've been working on together.  The best part of all this is to be able to stay home with my children, watch them grow and learn.  It has been hard especially financially.  Going from a two income home to one.  But the pros definitely out do the cons, I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

We have enrolled her in the program ABC Mouse, since December of 2014.  She has loved it since the beginning.  She's already on Level 4 within 3 months.  We've seen her grow so much since starting the program.  Her interest in learning how to read has also increased, which was one of my concerns.  We had our doubts at first about the program, but now we highly recommend it.

We finally decided on a new curriculum for Kindergarten and I'm very excited to start. After some extensive research we decided on My Father's World.  The best part it's a Christian curriculum, which is very important to our family.  We are a Christ centered family.  God first, family second.  Now for math we are going to incorporate Math U See.  I believe it would be more of a challenge  for her than the one that come with her curriculum.  Also love how my husband is even excited about the program.  When it finally arrived we opened it quickly and got so excited.  R started talking about wanting to do the different activities with her.  Which is what I wanted from the beginning.

I'm so grateful to have such a supported husband who not only backed up my decision to quick my job to be a stay at home when my daughter was born, but has also supported my decision to home school my daughter and my son when he becomes of age.  I couldn't have done it without his love and support.

Pray you enjoy our adventures of homeschooling!!!

God Bless!!!
