My Father's World: Unit 18 Zebra

MFW: Unit 18 Zebra

I CAN'T HIDE ANYTHING FROM GOD.

Some of our finding for the letter Zz.

BOOKS

Some of the great books read for this unit.

WORKSHEETS

Working on her handwriting and identifying the pictures that start with the letter Zz.

Reading, writing in the missing letter and working on her cuisenaire rods worksheets.

Worked on her cut and paste worksheet and then we worked on identifying ending sound of words and fill in the blank.

Completed her drawing pictures, reading, and writing page.
MATH

Working on skip counting by 10s.

Worked on counting using tally marks.

ARTS & CRAFT

Doing some coloring

We made a zebra mask and I made a zebra puppet.  Kanani had so much fun running around the house acting like a zebra.

ACTIVITIES/GAMES

Practicing cutting in zig zag.

Working on her zebra puzzle.

She had lots of fun playing this game, roll two golf balls around in the box so it paints the picture.

Once the pictures of the zebras were completely dry Kanani pasted them on green construction paper.  Above I wrote out the Zebra song, saw this Mud Pies and Makeup Blog.

SCIENCE

We made Christmas ornaments using thumbprints to make a snowmen, reindeers, and penguins.  I know this may seem like it has nothing to do with zebras but I wanted to show the kids the uniqueness of our thumbprints.  Just like no two zebras have the same stripes or patterns, our thumbprints and fingerprints are not alike either.
GEOGRAPHY

We learned that Zebras live in Africa, there are three kinds of zebras: plains zebra who live on open plains and in grassy woodlands throughout East Africa.  Grevy's zebras live in dry semidesert areas of northern Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Sudan.  Mountain zebras live in South Africa.

I took the pictures of the Africa animals and glued the animals to some felt.  She then found Africa on our felt map and placed the animals there.  I also included a Penguin and Kangaroo for her to place on the map.  We will be adding more animals and people on the map.

SNACK

To end our week for zebra unit we enjoyed some Zebra cakes.   The best part is the information on the box about Zebras.  This is one of Kanani's favorite snack, probably because she doesn't get to eat it as much.

MOVIES/VIDEOS

We have always loved the movies of "Madagascar", we watched all three dvd's.  Who doesn't love Marty the Zebra?!  He's definitely one of our favorites.

MEMORY VERSUS

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight.  Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
~Hebrews 4:13~

POEM

MORNING PRAYER
     By:  Ogden Nash

Now another day is breaking
Sleep was sweet and so is waking
Dear Lord, I promised you last night,
Never again to sulk or fight.
Such vows are easier to keep
When a child is sound asleep.
Today, O Lord, for your dear sake,
I'll try to keep them when awake.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Clark: Trumpet Voluntary

This week we learned about zebras and how their stripes help them camouflage from their number one predator the lion.  It's believed that lions are colored blind which is why it is easy for the zebras to hide in the tall grass of Africa.  Every zebra stripes are like fingerprints.  No two zebras are exactly alike.  They can be used to tell one zebra from another.  Which makes them unique just like how God made us unique.  We also learned that no matter where you are, what you have done, what your feeling God knows it all and sees all.

Hope you enjoy our zebra unit.

GOD BLESS!
