MFW:  Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 8

This week we will learn about the Virginia Colony, Louis XIV of France, Frederick (First Prussian King 1701), John Smith, The Sun King of France, Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanack, and the story of Tchaikovsky.  Also learn about the Earth and what it is made of, Amphibians, and Reptiles.  

Books

Bible

Language Arts
 

Worked on spelling, handwriting, forming sentences and paragraphs, days of the week, nouns, pronouns, lots of reading, and much more.







Math 

Introduction to multiplication for D, addition, subtraction, skip counting, fractions, division, and multiplication.





Timeline 

Added Louis XIV and Benjamin Franklin to our timelines this week.



History 

This week we read about Louis XIV, Benjamin Franklin, the decline of Jamestown, Virginia Colony, Father Jacques Marquette, Berkeley, taxes and plagues and Indians, stamping out the fires of rebellion, and Poor Richard's Almanack.








Science 

Discussed what the Earth is made of, studied all about amphibians and reptiles.  








We have 3 dwarf frogs: Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.


Our very own Cowboy Dragon Larry Boy.  

Art 


Painting pink angels


Flower stems and Wagon Wheels

Music/Video 


Watched several movies and series that went great with this weeks lessons on Benjamin Franklin and building your house on a rock.


Listened to the Story of Tchaikovsky.

Learned more on Bach and listened to several of his music.


As a side project the kids joined a Book Club with their friends and have started with the reading of "The BFG by Roald Dahl", we watched the movie too so we can compare with the book when we are done reading it.

Field trip 


At the end of the week we went to the movies for the first time since COVID and watched Marvel Shang-Chi the Legend of the Ten Rings.  It was a great movie and the kids had lots of fun finally being comfortable enough to go to the movies.  Best part the theater was pretty empty and we had a whole section to ourselves.  

Conclusion
 

This week we learned about the Virginia Colony, Louis XIV of France, Frederick (First Prussian King 1701), John Smith, the decline of Jamestown, Father Jacques Marquette, Berkeley, taxes, plagues, Indians, The Sun King of France, Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanack, and the story of Tchaikovsky.  Also learned about the Earth and what it is made of, Amphibians, and Reptiles.  Learned a lot this week and had fun while doing it, now unto next week to see what adventures are in store for us.
