MFW: ECC & K4 Week 13

This week we will continue our studies on Norway, learn about hibernation, migration, and climate change and how it affects everything.  Little man will work on the letter Ii, numbers 1-10, review his colors and shapes.  We will also go into more details about insects their life cycles and the many benefits they have for everyone.

Bought the Usborne Art Treasury book addition to the one that came with the curriculum.  Kids love learning about art and this book is a great addition to our art studies.  Today we learned more about Vincent Von Gogh and his art "The Starry Night".



Kids own version of "The Starry Night" and mine.

GEOGRAPHY




Opened our package from Iceland and learned many great things of this country.



Another package we opened about and learned was Ireland.



After reading more about Norway she colored in the Norway flag.



Eating some delicious Biscoff, goes great with our Europe study.

SCIENCE




For Insect week we went over the life cycle of an insect: egg, larva, pupa, and insect.


Picked a section in our backyard (picked 2 trees) to identify the trees.

NATURE WALK


D was learning about insects this week and made a dragonfly using our Spielgaben set.



Observing some of our plastic insects and working on some hand-eye coordination.

Watched several episodes of "Puffin Rock", which is an Irish children's television series.  



Watched Season 1 episode 7 "Hide and Seek" to learn more about camouflage.

FIELD TRIP



Story and craft time started again this month, which we all missed.



Theme for today was "Back to School".  Ms. Debbie read stories and did different activities about kids and teachers returning to school.  We even went over the colors in English and Spanish.



Dance moves to get the wiggles out.



Stem activity using cut up pool noodles and tooth picks which the kids got to build whatever their imagination took them.



After completing their sculptures they made bookmarks.

This week we finished our studies on Norway, learned about animal defenses, hibernation, migration, and climate change and how it effects everything.  Worked with little man on the letter Ii, numbers 1-10, reviewed his colors and shapes.  Visited Ireland and Iceland, also got into more details about insects their life cycles and the many benefits they have for everyone.  Next week we will start our studies on France.  Until next time to see what is in store for us.
