MFW: ECC & K4 WEEK 28

We will continue our studies on Japan, learn more about their culture, how they do things differently from us, and more crafts.  Also continue learning about the ocean.  D will focus on learning the letters he still hasn't mastered this week and and his numbers.  He's mastered his colors so we won't focus too much on that this week.

LANGUAGE ARTS



Working on her spelling words and practicing her handwriting in cursive and regular writing.

This week I've been working with D on his letters, more like a review.  I would write some letters on the board and if he got it correct he would erase it from the other board.  We've been concentrating more on the ones he doesn't seem to grasp.



Went back and used some worksheets to work on his letter review.

MATH

We made Kimono Doll Bookmark and Japanese Lanterns.

Learned about the Katsushika Hokusia and his painting techniques.  Made our version of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa".

GEOGRAPHY

North Korea

Learned about Haiku poems and how they are made of 3 lines: 1st one with 5 syllables, 2nd one with 7 syllables, and 3rd one has 5 syllables.  K really enjoyed this project and made a Haiku poem on a Tree outside our window.

Learned more on the animals that are unique to Japan.

NATURE WALK 



My parents went to the beach this week, we couldn't go this time with them since little man and me were sick.  They sent us pictures and even collected sea shells for us.  We observed many pictures and videos on the ocean and all the plants and animals that live near and in the ocean.

We got to enjoy some time outdoors since it was warm enough.

Watched Season 3 Episode 1 about the Mangrove Tree and the animals that live in that area.  Went perfect with our studies for this week.

FIELD TRIP



Didn't get a chance to go anywhere this week due to some of us getting over a cold.  We got to enjoy some more time with my cousin before she left to Puerto Rico.  She will be missed greatly, thank goodness for FaceTime.

Finished our studies on Japan and loved learning everything we did.  Kids really loved the arts and crafts and enjoyed some Japanese food too.  Learned a lot more about the ocean and all it has to offer.  We need to all do our part in order to conserve our oceans, so much pollution and so many fish and plants dying.  Pray that someday our oceans will be clean again.  Unto next week to start our studies on Russia.

This week we will start our studies on Japan, learn about it cultures, people, and beliefs.  Will study more on the ocean and the life that lives in it.  Little man will begin his studies on the letter Ff, and join us on our fun adventures learning about Japan.

Karensansui Mini-Gardens, we used Kinetic sand which the kids enjoyed making waves in the sand.

K learned about the First Thanksgiving in her Native American class and they made these cute bracelets as a reminder of the story.

Colored in our Japanese Carp Fish and then hung them on the wall.



Got some crayola origami kit (dog and cat) from Chick-fil-A several days ago and decide to save them until now.

Little man learned about sharks in his Sea Life class at our co-op.

Learning about the shoreline and the animals and plants that live there.

Making crystals with a kit he got for Christmas.

Digging for rocks and gems from a kit she got for Christmas.

Cold Water Demonstration: kids thought it was neat to feel the water cold on the bottom and warm on top.

NATURE WALK 



Little man enjoying jumping off a small wall and seeing how high he could jump.  

Went to story time and the theme was on Chickens, the kids loved the dancing "The Chicken Dance" and all the stories that were read.

This week we started our studies on Japan learning about the culture, the people, and beliefs.  We've enjoyed many crafts that is done in Japan.  Got a chance to go with the family to a museum near our town and explore all the wonderful history it had.  Learned a lot about the ocean and the many different things that live in or near the ocean.  Little man worked on the letter Ff, numbers and shape recognition, and reviewing his colors.  It's been a great week of learning and now unto next week to continue our studies on Japan.
