  MFW:  Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 13

This week we will learn about Japan, China, Hideyoshi, Japan's isolation, the foreign conquest of China, the Ming and the Ch'ing.  Also learn about echinoderms, sponges, worms, and earthworms.  We'll discuss why Jesus is the way, Connecticut, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and more on birds.

Language Arts 

Lots of reading, both of them moved up a level in reading, they have worked so hard to get here.  Also worked on learning the day of the week and months in the year, handwriting practice, spelling, and writing a full paragraph.   





Math 

Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fraction, and metric system.





Timeline 

Nothing added this week.

History 

This week we learned about Japan, warlords of Japan, Korea, China, the first Tokugawa ruler, foreign conquest of China, rise of Manchu, and the Ming and the Ch'ing.  Also learn about Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maryland, South Carolina.

  










Read Farmers Boy and did the milk and popcorn activity.  Filled a cup to the brim with milk, then put the popcorn in the cup of milk.  All the popcorn fit in the cup without overflowing.  It was a really neat experiment, kids tasted the milk and didn't like it at all.

Science 

Read about Echinoderms, sponges, worms, earthworms, and American Robin, Black Capped Chickadee, and Northern Oriole.  




Earthworm Experiment: learning if earthworms are sensitive to touch.



Feed the birds outside and they are always so happy to see us when we fill their bird feeder.

Art 


Lesson #204 Studying a Horse


Lesson #205 Gesture Drawing, she drew her favorite pet one of our Red Belly Slider Hulk.

Music/Video 


Listened to "The Best of Mendelssohn: #10 Symphony no.4 in A major, "Italian"-Saltarello: Presto, # 7 Symphony no.3 in A minor, "Scottish"-Andante con moto - Allegro un poco agitato - Andante come prima.  Also listened to America the Beautiful.

Field trip 

Went for our daily walk and found some Robin's nest, moth, and identified several birds on our walk too.



Conclusion 

This week we learned about Japan, China, Hideyoshi, Japan's isolation, the foreign conquest of China, the Ming and the Ch'ing.  Also learned about echinoderms, sponges, worms, and earthworms.  We discussed why Jesus is the way, Connecticut, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and more on birds: America Robin, Black-Capped Chickadee, and Northern Oriole.  Now unto next week to see what adventures are in store for us.
