MFW: RtR and Learning Gods Story Week 18

 MFW:  RTR AND LEARNING GOD'S STORY WEEK 18

This week we will learn about how the bible was copied back then, monasteries, vikings, Leif Ericsson, Medieval herb gardens, Monks, Egypt and runestone.  Also learn about the books of Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Hosea.  Read about Jacob, Jacob's twelve sons, Joseph, adding by two numbers, more on measurements, and learn all about our muscles.

Bible Reader: Jacob's Ladder


Joseph son of Jacob, Joseph's New Coat, and Joseph becomes a slave bible reader.

LANGUAGE ARTS


Latin words this week: SCRIBO, SCRIPTUM (write) and AD (to, toward, near, not to).


Working on prefix: mis and non, and capital letters (names).


Prefix mis and pre, and proper nouns (names of streets, places, and people).


Prefix im and dis, and more on proper nouns.


Lots of reading this week, prefix work, capitalization, and proper nouns.


While K read the bible reader D worked on his Jacob leaves home worksheet.


K reading the story of Joseph and D worked on reviewing ge and g sound, and learned ph sound.


Made a complete sentence and learned the u (oo) sound.


Lots of reading this week, handwriting in clay, and working on his Joseph worksheet.  

MATH 


100 chart, number of the day (69-72), calendar, and weather chart.


Solid figures and adding decimals.


Subtracting decimals and more on solid figures.


More subtracting decimals and solid figures.


Solid figure fun, adding and subtracting decimals.


Reached day 70 this week, and he practiced skip counting by ten (10-70).


Learned about the ones and tens place.


Adding by double digits.


He has been practicing adding by two digits all week, he has gotten the hang of it for sure.

TIMELINE 


Added Jacob's ladder, 12 sons of Jacob and Joseph to the timeline this week.


K added Viking Raids 790-1100 and Leif Ericsson sails to North America-1100.

HISTORY 


Read about the Good Samaritan .


Studied about how the monks copied the Bible, while I read about it K colored her worksheet.


The Viking Invasion and the Norsemen of Scandinavia.


K made her own decorative Psalm while I read about the early English Bible.


Observed several pictures of monasteries and their gardens online, kids were impressed with how big their gardens are.


Medieval Monasteries and Writing books by Hand.


The Vikings-Raids from 790-1100 worksheet.


Vikings abroad and Norse Explorations.


Made our own Viking ship out of card board, actually made this a couple years ago, the kids enjoyed playing with the ship while I read to them.


Read about Viking Runes and K wrote on her clay tablet that she made at the beginning of the semester.   


The Norse Gods and Vikings at home.


Learned all about Egypt and Israel.


Studied the books of Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Hosea.  

SCIENCE 


Learning about our muscle power and showing me their muscles.


Reading how our muscles work.


Observing dog cardiac muscle and dog skeletal muscle under the microscope.


K worked hard on her muscle model.


Reviewing all things about measurements, using his foot steps to measure how wide the carpet is and measuring his hand.


D completed his weather chart and wants to continue to do it, gotta find another chart for him to complete.

ART


Lesson 112: Designing Fanciful Letters


Lesson 113: Making an Illuminated Manuscript


Went to Dollar Tree and the kids picked out some wood art to paint to go with our Christmas decor.


D learned about "Hunters in the Snow" by Pieter Bruegel.

MUSIC/VIDEOS


While the kids worked on their art they listened to "The Best of Mozart: Quartet for oboe, violin, viola, and violoncello in F major".


D listened to "Peter and the Wolf" and listened for the grandfather (Bassoon) and the Wolf (French Horn).


To go with our story of Joseph we watched "Veggie Tales: Moe and the Big Exit & Little Joe".


Watched a short clip on vikings on our "Brain Pop App".

FIELD TRIP/EVENTS 


D really enjoyed trying darts for the first time.


Played frisbee and enjoyed a picnic outside.


First time playing darts and she hit the mark.


Loving the turkey legs.


Kids loved building Gingerbread house with my parents 

CONCLUSION 

This week we learned about how the bible was copied back then, monasteries, vikings, Leif Ericsson, Medieval herb gardens, Monks, Egypt and runestone.  Also learned about the books of Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, and Hosea.  Read about Jacob, Jacob's twelve sons, Joseph, adding by two numbers, more on measurements and learn all about our muscles. To add to this week my parents are coming for Thanksgiving, best way to end the week.  So happy whenever they are in town, miss having them close.
