MFW: Adventures in History Week 13 (Thanksgiving Week)

MFW: ADVENTURES IN U.S. HISTORY WEEK 13 (THANKSGIVING WEEK)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS.

Of course little man had a nap before arriving to the party at his grandparents house, he needed to recharge before all the fun began.

This week we will learn the true meaning of Thanksgiving, work on some arts and crafts, and enjoy some time with family on Thanksgiving day.

BOOKS

Few books we used this week for our Thanksgiving theme.

BIBLE

~Psalm 100

~1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

~Ephesians 5:9-20

~Colossians 3:17

~Luke 17:11-19

READING

The Little Runaways by Margaret Hillert

The Purple Pussycat by Margaret Hillert

LANGUAGE ARTS

No pictures but for this week we chose to review our spelling words.  Due to it being a shorter school week due to the Thanksgiving holidays I wanted a more lay back week for her.

MATH

This week we chose to work on another workbook than our Singapore Math 1B.  Wanted to review what we've learned so far and make sure she understood what she has completed so far.

To go with the theme of this week the kids played with their Turkey Math Lapbook.  They would place the number on the turkey body and then place the number of feathers the card said on the turkey.

Such a fun activity

U.S. NOTEBOOK

After reading about the first thanksgiving we traced the kids hands and then they colored it in.

Drew some Native American Pictographs on some brown paper bags after reading about them and their culture and beliefs.

Her finished Native American vest

His finished Native American vest

After reading about the pilgrims we worked on their Pilgrim Unit lapbook.

He loved putting the different shapes on the hat

After discussing what the bible said about being thankful and having a grateful heart we made a tree with what they are thankful for.

TIMELINE

None for this week

ART

Made some thumbprint turkeys and placed on the fridge.  They also made magnetic turkeys at the library.

Coloring and making their turkey magnets at the library.

Made Turkey plates

After he colored a paper plate he placed the letters (feathers) in the correct order to spell out his name.

Foot and Hand turkeys, they are so cute.

Kids made thank you cards for several different people from our community who came out to speak at our homeschool 4H group.

Closer look at their cards.

SCIENCE

Studied the life cycle of a pumpkin

Working on the pumpkin life cycle

Sink and Float Pumpkin experiment

Measuring a pumpkin

Kids didn't want to destroy their pumpkins so instead we bought a small bag of pumpkin seeds and studied them.  We dyed the pumpkin seeds different colors and the kids had fun making different pictures with them.  I'm sure I took pictures but for some reason couldn't find them.

NATURE WALK

When I finished racking the leaves I made a pile at the end of their slide and the kids would jump right in.

Ninjas

She was excited that a ladybug landed on her

VIDEOS

We watched several different Thanksgiving movies, I forgot to take pictures of them.

ACTIVITIES

Story time at the library

Mrs. Deborah Jordan is the best story teller ever.

Sensory play, Motor skill development for little man, placed several pom poms on a tray and had him transfer them into a water bottle I made into a turkey.  He really loved this activity and played for almost an hour.

Time with my dad and their dad during Thanksgiving dinner

Blessed to have their great grandparents here for Thanksgiving this year, they are from Puerto Rico.

Their uncle came with his wife from Florida to celebrate Thanksgiving with us, and the right picture is with their grandmother.

I'm one blessed mom to have these two in my life.

This week has been a week to give thanks, even though we should always give God thanks for the many blessings we have and have yet to receive.  We talked about the first Thanksgiving, meaning of giving thanks, what the bible says about Thanksgiving.  Enjoyed many different arts and crafts activities and had a blast with family.  Until next week.

GOD BLESS!!
