MFW: Adventures in U.S. HIstory Week 6

MFW: ADVENTURES IN U.S. HISTORY WEEK 6

This week we will learn more about the American Pioneers, a girl named Sarah Noble and her courage, how to make butter, review the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people, and how Jesus is the bread of life.

BOOKS

Few books we used this week

BIBLE

Bread of Life

Writing practice "I am the bread of Life"

Memory Verse: ...."I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty."
~John 6:35

~Exodus 16:2-4; 13-16

~John 6:5-13

~John 6:26-35

READING

"Dear Dragon Goes to the Bank" by: Margaret Hillert

"Dear Dragon Goes to the Beach" by: Margaret Hillert

She read a few other books just didn't take pictures :)

LANGUAGE ARTS

Reviewing all of our spelling words.  Laid out all the flashcards on the table for her to use to complete her worksheet.

Reading sentences in her English workbook and identifying punctuations at the end of each sentence.

I would say the spelling words out loud and she would write them down.  Think this is less stressful for her.  It was a spelling test but she didn't know that.

Cross word puzzle and reviewing spelling words.

MATH

Adding and introduction to multiplication.

More addition and multiplication practice

She has done really good with grasping multiplication.

U.S. NOTEBOOK

Locating Connecticut on the map and summarizing the book "The Courage of Sarah Noble" which we finished this week.

Reading the step by step of how the pioneers used to make butter.

Made butter by placing some whipping cream into a glass jar and sealed it tight and shake the jar back and forth.  It was neat watching the cream turn into butter.

The best part of this fun activity is getting to taste it with some crackers.  Kids were worried about tasting it at first but ended up loving it.

TIMELINE

None this week

ART

City Lights and Country Lights

Figure Boxes and Picture Frames

Cubes, Boxes & Paper Bags

Small, Medium, Large

SCIENCE

Smelling and feeling yeast

Observing yeast under the microscope

Mixing yeast with sugar and warm water

Poured the mixture into the glass bottle and covered it with a balloon.  Place the jar in a dark warm space and waited a few minutes before taking the jar out.  After a few minutes we observed the balloon filling up with carbon dioxide.  Pretty neat experiment, also did one using a mixture with salt instead of sugar.  The balloon didn't fill up.

Science Worksheet

NATURE WALK

It was so hot outside so I took the kids to the library.  They were excited to see that the library added a Krayon Kiosk.

Afterwards we went to 2nd and Charles to go to a Paw Patrol Activity they had.  Excited to take a picture with Darth Vador.

Coloring fun with some Paw Patrol coloring sheets.

VIDEOS

Watched a video "A Day on an Indiana diary farm" on YouTube.

ACTIVITIES

Went to Ripley's Aquarium of Myrtle Beach in SC.  It was a last minute trip but it was lots of fun.

Fun being able to see all the awesome marine life.

Observing sea horses and many different types of fish.

Loved the mermaids show

Then we took a walk on the boardwalk.
