FieldTrip: Shenandoah National Park


SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK 


Went with the family to Shenandoah National Park for a hike.   Just being able to observe all of God's creation and share this time with my family while they visit was an amazing experience.

Field Trip: Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

Museum of the Shenandoah Valley 


Enjoyed our visit to Museum of the Shenandoah Valley with the family, love venturing out and exploring all new places close to us.


Few of the beautiful art pieces, "A Fishing Camp along the Shenandoah and Wild Horses".  


These were very interesting, and one of the kids favorite pieces.  "Stonewall and Drei Drucker/Three Printers".

We loved miniature house section in the museum, all the details that went into making everything like that real thing.


The books are the exact replica of the original ones, which blew my mind.  There was so much to see and to think everything works, like the lights.

MFW: Reformation to Rome Curriculum Organization

MFW: Reformation to Rome Curriculum Organization 

We have moved on to 5th Grade and will also be combining 1st grade (Learning God's Story) to our school year.  K is excited to learn all about Rome, she really loves history.  D is happy to move on to 1st grade, he says he is grown now.  Below I will be showing you how I organized our new school area and the curriculum for the year.  Also will add each week we complete below.   Pray this will help someone out there.  


ROME TO REFORMATION (5th Grade)
LEARNING GOD'S STORY (1st Grade)

The Curriculum we will be using this semester and we will also be using a few books from our 4th grade curriculum.  


I've organized the ROME TO REFORMATION CURRICULUM by sections using tabs in the notebook and teacher's manual by weeks.  First part of the notebook is cursive worksheets, second part are the student worksheets, then the art cards in the zipper pocket, and at the end the art cards.  K will have a separate notebook for her to store all her works.


For D's LEARNING GOD'S STORY CURRICULUM I already had it ready since I used it for K when she went through 1st grade.  The teacher's manual and student notebook I divided it by sections with tabs by week.  After the student worksheets is the memory verse worksheets, and then the art cards.  


Laminated all the pictures of the TIMELINE after coloring them.  I cut them out and on the back wrote what week each picture is for.  Got the timeline from Tasha Wiginton blog, since we don't have the wall space.  Printed the timeline pages (scroll) on card stock and then laminated them, after which I taped them together to form a book.  Placed the pictures in a zipper pouch to secure them.


Some of the resources we will be using for our Bible time.  


D is using Hooked on Phonics and K will be using Spectrum Language Arts and All About Reading (not pictured) for their Language Arts and Spelling.  Also will be working on cursive handwriting with both of them.


For math K will continue to use Singapore math and D will use the Math workbook that comes with his curriculum and the pattern animals worksheets.


Placed expanded numbers (which D will be using), Peter the Wolf cd, and memory verse I placed in zipper pouched, and we will be listening to several cd's too.

Top left picture holds the folders for the week and week ahead, found this at Michaels craft store, bottom left picture shows our library bookcase, several bins that holds our stamps, colored rice & pasta, and a few of our sensory manipulatives.  Next to the bins are two rolling shelves that hold all of our office supplies, paint supplies, markers, alphabet materials, and extra school supplies.  Right picture is a closer look of our library, we do have a lot more books just need to find a new bookshelf.  In front is our awesome 10 year old puppy who always has to be near us, why we have a bed in our school room.  


On the top picture is our game shelf, HP printer under that hold all the Hooked on Phonics boxes, and the brown shelf holds all the curriculum books and notebooks.  Bottom picture is where all our school materials is housed, manipulatives, pencils, etc...  Also our keyboard is on this side which we will start practicing on and adding the famous recorder to the mix.  


School room is in the basement, which has been a great blessing for us.  We finally have a place to store all of our school materials.  Top picture is our school room without the table in the middle, lots of space.  Middle picture is how it will look when we have the table and chairs out.  The bottom picture is the second half of the basement, which is the game room.  In the game room we also have a mini fridge and a snack bar on top of that.  Next to that is our mini file cabinet and on top of that houses the puppets.  Our laundry room is also in the basement next to the mini fridge.  


Here are our pets (my other children).  Top left is our puppy Zeus, top right is our bearded dragon Larry Boy, bottom left is Coco our Cockatiel, middle picture is 4 goldfish, and bottom right is our 3 dwarf frogs.  

We are excited for our new journey this school year.  Below I will be adding each week we finish our lesson.  Praying for a smoother year compared to our last one.  The kids have worked so hard and still are working hard especially in their reading.  New year, new curriculum, new hope for all of us.  Placing everything in God's hand for him to continue to lead us in the path He wants us to take.  Unto our new adventures starting next week.

MFW: CtG and Gods Creation Completion

MFW: Creation to the Greek and God's Creation from A to Z Completion 
We have finished both curriculums and will be taking a break before we start on the next chapter.  Planning on starting in the beginning of July, 5th grade: Rome to the Reformation and 1st grade: Learning God's Story.  We've learned so much and have seen so much growth between all of us.  Excited to begin our new adventures soon.  


The kids have taken their final exams and have passed with flying colors.  



Recap of the year:  Found out mid year that K has dyslexia which makes lots of sense as far as how behind she is in reading.  Thankfully we have found a great curriculum that is made for children with dyslexia "All About Reading".  Seen such an improvement in her reading and her confidence.  Before she would start of strong and then decline and get frustrated.  Now she actually gets excited to read and everyday we sit together and she reads.  Love that we have found something that has helped her build that confidence in reading.  I believe with all my heart that she will catch up and excel in her reading this year.  For D I've found that "Hooked on Phonics" has helped him with his reading.  He actually has picked up reading pretty well and also likes to sit with me everyday to read his words and little books.  Such a blessing to see the kids get excited to read their books everyday and not fight to get them to read.  Happy to have finally found something that will work for the kids and getting them on the right track to reading.  


During our school year we put our house up for sale and I started packing everything up every chance I got.  Within 2 months I had everything packed and ready to place in storage.  Once we sold the house the kids and me moved in with my parents.  My husband was in Georgia in training.  When he completed his training he got his orders that he would be working in VA.  He found us a place to live in WV, a great home which we are renting.  We ended up moving in February from NC to WV (right before all this COVID-19 closed everything down).  It was hard moving away from my parents and everything familiar.  

Change is never easy, especially for the kids.  They still cry and say how much they miss NC.  It hasn't been easy, especially with not being able to explore and do the things we are used to due to COVID-19.  Thankfully they have the neighbor kids that they talk to, the kids parents won't let them come over to play in the yard because of the virus.  So the kids just talk between the fence and make up games so they can somewhat play together.  We love going to parks, museums,  libraries, and just explore everything we can.  Unfortuniatly for now we can't do those things for the time being.  Little by little things are opening up, still little skittish to go out especially if their will be a lot of people around.  New norm is wearing a mask everywhere we go.  Thankfully the kids don't mind wearing their masks and are really good about washing their hands and sanitizing everything.  I have a OCD and am constantly cleaning, so it's not much of a difference for me, I would say my cleaning has gotten more intense.  

Another thing we all miss is soccer.  K loves soccer and has been playing the sport since she was 4.  Loved watching her play and enjoy learning new tricks.  It's not the same thing to play one on one at home then getting to practice and play with your team.  Soccer has been canceled for the year.  Looking into seeing what other activities are open to enroll the kids in, like archery.  

I know their are people who are suffering way more than we are.  We are blessed and thank God everyday for everything we have.  So grateful to God for always taking care of us and helping us through everything.  Praying for this nation, president, for this virus to go away, and for the people.  The world has turned their back on God, which is so sad to see all this war between the people.  Praying things change especially for the sake of our kids.

Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments.

Love God and experience God.
