MFW: Exploration to 1850 and Adventures in U.S. History Week 31
This week we will start working on our state report (North Carolina), learning how to write a report, parts of a report, searching/looking up information, and continue to work on the botany journal. Also learn about home on the plains, breathing earth, winter, spring, how the pioneers raised corn and wheat, North Dakota, South Dakota, Mount Rushmore, house sparrow, blue jay, ruby-throated hummingbird, and the red-winged blackbird.
Books

Language Arts
Did a lot of reading, writing, sight words, spelling, and learned about parts of a report and paragraphs.
Math
Lots of review work this week: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and conversation units.

History
We worked on the K's state report, she picked North Carolina, that's where her and her brother where born. Read about a story of pioneers from Norway, breaking earth, winter, spring, North and South Dakota, and Mount Rushmore.
Science
Added the state bird, state tree, state flower, state animal, state fruits of North Carolina to K's report. Read about the House Sparrow, Blue Jay, Ruby Throated Hummingbird, light and color, friction, lines and shadow, the speed of light, colors, seeing light, hot friction, and streamlining. Also did some experiments on air power with a rocket balloon have a video of this experiment but for some reason can't seem to download it.
Girls worked on tie-dye and the boys played catch.

Art
Paint Card # 13 Colors with Harmony
K did a lot of coloring for her state report.
Music/Video
Listened to Patriotic Songs of the U.S.A.: #11 Armed Services Medley.
Field trip
Went to Morgan's Grove Park and walked around, learned about the area and enjoyed lots of time in the park.
Conclusion
