My Father's World: Unit 20 Jewel

MFW: Unit 20 Jewel

JESUS IS MORE VALUABLE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.

Some of our finds for the letter Jj.

My most precious jewels are my children.  I thank God every day for allowing me to be there mother.  They are a true blessing and the best honor God has bestowed upon us.

Great books we used for this unit.

WORKSHEETS

Working on her cursive and handwriting.

Identifying the pictures that start with the letter J, working on her cuisenaire rod worksheet, and reading her little flip book.

Doing some sight words and drawing.

Working on her cut and paste worksheets and blend ladder.

MATH

Working on her math worksheet, it started off a bit challenging for her but once she got to the third problem it was a breeze for her.

This week we worked on subtraction and finding the unknown.  Love how Math U See has challenged her to think outside the box in a very gentle way just like MFW.
ARTS & CRAFT

Drew a crown on some poster board and had Kanani decorate it however she pleased.  Once she was done I cut it out and stapled the ends and placed the crown on my princess.  She did an outstanding job.
The second crown she made at her friend's birthday party which was a princess theme.

We made necklaces using our beads from our Melissa and Doug bead set.
ACTIVITIES/GAMES

This week at our co-op the theme was Author Day, you come dressed up as your favorite book.  Kanani had a lot of favorites but chose Ladybug Girl and Bingo.  I was so proud of her for wanting to do this.  Each child had to give a brief report on the book without telling to much of the story and say why they picked the book.  She doesn't like public speaking, just like her momma, but went ahead and put her fears aside and gave her report.  I was so proud of my precious jewel for overcoming her fear of public speaking.

Working on writing the letter J in her salt tray.

Hid some gems for Kanani to find.  She said she was searching for treasure.

Once she found all the gems we tried to identify each one, Kanani would get so excited whenever she identified one.

SCIENCE

Some of our gemstones we bought awhile back when we went to the Science Museum.

Looking through the microscope at a salt crystal slide, she loves looking or observing different things under the microscope.  My little scientist just like her momma.

Looking through the microscope some of our homemade crystals we made a time ago. Here is a link to how to make your own crystals at home by Play Dough to Plato, it was a lot of fun and also taught Kanani some patience while the crystals formed.

MOVIES/VIDEOS

We watched Sweetpea Beauty and The Penniless Princess by VeggieTales.  It teaches how God made us beautiful, we should be happy with the way we are, and that we are worth more than gold.  God made us Special and he loves us very much; VeggieTales famous saying.

What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.

POEM

FLINT
     By: Christina Rossetti

An emerald is a green as grass,
A ruby red as blood;
A sapphire shines as blue as heaven;
A flint lies in the mud.

A diamond is a brilliant stone,
To catch the world's desire;
An opel holds a fiery spark;
But a flint holds fire.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Handel: Messiah (Overture)

This unit was lots of fun, it might seem I say that about every unit.  We just love MFW!  Kanani really enjoyed observing different items under the microscope and identifying the different gems she has.  We will be going to the museum next week to see different types of jewels, rocks, and butterflies.  Wanted to wait till after B unit to go so we could see all three units.  In the pictures Kanani may seem to be wearing the same pjs in everyone, the reason being:  one she loves her batman pjs and two we normally do our school work in the mornings after breakfast.  We stay in pjs unless we are going to leave the house.  Nothing like doing school work and learning in some comfortable clothes.

GOD BLESS!

My Father's World: Unit 19 Rock

MFW: Unit 19 Rock

I LISTEN AND OBEY; I BUILD MY LIFE ON THE ROCK.

Some items that start with the letter Rr.

Books we used for this unit.

WORKSHEETS

Working on her handwriting.

Doing her cuisenaire rod worksheet, identifying objects that start with the letter R, reviewing her picture cards, and working on her cut and paste worksheet.

She has loved the little booklets, read this one with no help.  Working on another cut and past worksheet and her handwriting.

Did her sight word worksheet with a breeze this time around, I'm so proud how far she has gotten with reading.  Worked on her blend ladder and drawing worksheets.

I bought this Reading Readiness workbook for Kanani to practice more on her reading.  She did this worksheet all on her own, so proud of her improvements.

Working on her rhyming worksheets.

MATH

This math worksheet was super easy for her, she finished it really fast.  I'm so glad we added MATH U SEE this time around, this week we have been working on counting my hundred and counting by 10.

ARTS & CRAFTS

This week Kanani actually painted rocks in her co-op class, no surprise she went with pink.

Kanani pointed this picture we have hanging in the living room out to me.  Perfect picture to go with our rock unit.  My older brother made this for us last year on our first family trip as a family of 4 to Florida.  Kanani also made some rock family of our own but I forgot to take pictures of it.

We made some moon rocks, which was a pretty fun activity.  Used 4 cups of baking soda, gold, silver, and white glitter, black food coloring, and 1/4 cup of water.  We mixed all the ingredients together and then rolled them into little balls and let them dry for 24 hours.

ACTIVITIES/GAMES

Placed some activities on the rug for Dartanian to play with.  Since we were doing the letter R this week I placed items with the color of the rainbow.  He really enjoyed the stacking and hammering activities the most.

To continue with our rainbow them the kids had a blast in their polka dot tent filled with rainbow color ball pit balls.  On the right side is a picture of our rainbow shelf, one of my favorite shelves.

Cut a soup box to make her this salt tray for her to practice her handwriting.  She loved seeing the rainbow colors when she would write a letter.

Saw this idea on Pinterest I believe but can't find the link for it.  I set up a basket with 12 ball pit balls and a muffin tray.  I showed Dartanian what I wanted him to do only one time and then he proceeded to do it on his own.  Of course Kanani wanted to join him in the activity.

Set up two pans one with sand and the other with rocks to do the presentation of the story of the man who build his house on the rocks and the other in sand.

SCIENCE

Kanani first placed the rocks in order from largest to smallest, then she divided them into three groups: large, medium, and small.

She used the rocks to form the letter Rr.

After reading this cute book Kanani placed the rocks into three sections: sedimentary, metamorphic, and ingenious.  We also learned about the rock cycle.

MOVIES/VIDEOS

After reading the story of the man who built his house on the rock we saw the movie "Veggie Tales: The little house that stood", it went perfect with the story.

Watched the video of the rock cycle by "The Mysteries of Life with Tim and Moby, and learned about rock formation on "The Magic School Bus".

POEM

OBEDIENCE
     By: Author Unknown

If you're told to do a thing,
And mean to do it really,
Never let it be by halves,
But do it fully freely.

Do not make a poor excuse,
Waiting, weak, unsteady;
All obedience worth the name,
Must be prompt and ready.

CLASSICAL MUSIC

Strauss: Thunder and Lightning Polka

We ended up doing this unit in 2 weeks due to family being in town.  It's always fun when family come to visit, just love how flexible our schedule can be when stuff like that happens with no notice, one of the many benefits that come with homeschooling.  Hope you enjoy our rock unit as much as we did.

GOD BLESS!
