MFW: WHL (10th Grade) and Exploration to 1850 (6th Grade) Week 1

First week back to school after a very long break, even though we are starting school later than usual, happy to finally begin.  This week we will be doing lots of reviewing and learning about Leif Ericsson, Columbus, Cabot, Ponce de Leon, Creation, Dinosaurs, Ancient Rome, and Julius Caesar.

Learned about Leif Ericson, William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, settled world, Stephen Langton, Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, Spain explores America, England, Roman Life, and exploring the world.







SCIENCE

Read about the characteristics of amphibians, order caudata, the life cycle of frogs, animals in God's creation, animals on the ark, dinosaurs, fossilized animals, tyrannosaurus rex, pterosaurs, extinct marine reptiles, and working with fossils.







ART/MUSIC


FIELD TRIP

The grandparents came to visit this week, it had been 3 months since we saw them and they said they needed to see the kids.  Love of a grandparent.  It was a much needed visit from them.



Kids ended the week in their Tae Kwon Do class.

CONCLUSION 

First week back to school after a very long break, even though we are starting school later than usual, happy to finally begin.  This week we reviewed several things and learned about Leif Ericson, William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar, settled world, Stephen Langton, Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, Spain explores America, England, Roman Life, and exploring the world.  Read about the characteristics of amphibians, order caudata, the life cycle of frogs, animals in God's creation, animals on the ark, dinosaurs, fossilized animals, tyrannosaurus rex, pterosaurs, extinct marine reptiles, and working with fossils.  Had a very successful week of learning and have fun together.  Now unto next week to see what adventures are in store for us.

This school year we will be using MFW: World History and Literature for tenth grade and MFW: Exploration to 1850 for sixth grade.  Below I will show some of the books we will be using this school year, there are several books I know I'll be adding to our curriculum as time goes on.  For example looking for a good Zoology book for K who is interested in becoming a zoologist and something for photography for D.  I'm many other books will be used this year as the kids interest change.

PLAYROOM/BASEMENT/LIBRARY

Top picture shows where D's drum are and where he practices (in the basement), also our library, and part of kids playroom.

Middle picture shows my husband's man cave (the other half of the basement), also the treadmill (D and me like using it daily for our exercise).  

Bottom picture shows where we do most of our school work in the dining room.  The shelves hold our school curriculums and supplies, with lots of bins that hold more supplies for a variety of things.  


This is our first year we have started our school year later in the year.  It has been a pretty tough and busy year so far, but holding on to God's grace to move forward.  Glad to finally be back in the swing of things, praying for another wonderful year of learning and fun.  Below as the weeks go by I'll be adding our lessons for the year.

This week we will learn about John Wyclif, reformation, John Huss, William Tyndale, Martin Luther, Jesus and his teachings, Daniel, and Pharaohs of the bible.  Also read about insects, parts of an insect, phylum Arthropoda, and Uranus.

Read about John Wyclif, reformation, John Huss, William Tyndale, revolutionary times, Gutenberg's great invention, Henry VIII's problem, an explosion of translations, Martin Luther's List, the spread of Christianity, the life of Jesus, spreading the word, secret symbols, and the eve of the reformation.  Also read about Christian emperors, abuses in the papacy and in the Roman church, early protesters, the reformation in Germany, pharaohs of the Bible, and Daniel.

Learned about Uranus, it's orbit and rotation, Titania, eureka, moons, Oberon, Cordelia, Ophelia, who named Uranus, Ariel, Miranda, Umbriel, Phylum Arthropoda, compound eye, arachnids, molting, simple eye, and crustaceans.  






ARTS




FIELD TRIP

Went with our co-op group to the Walkersville, Maryland Post Office, learned how thing run in the post office, the ins and outs, kids got to sort mail, explore different types of vehicles that are used to deliver the mail, buy stamps, and send themselves a post card.







CONCLUSION

This week we read about John Wyclif, reformation, John Huss, William Tyndale, revolutionary times, Gutenberg's great invention, Henry VIII's problem, an explosion of translations, Martin Luther's List, the spread of Christianity, the life of Jesus, spreading the word, secret symbols, and the eve of the reformation.  Also read about Christian emperors, abuses in the papacy and in the Roman church, early protesters, the reformation in Germany, pharaohs of the Bible, and Daniel. Learned about Uranus, it's orbit and rotation, Titania, eureka, moons, Oberon, Cordelia, Ophelia, who named Uranus, Ariel, Miranda, Umbriel, Phylum Arthropoda, compound eye, arachnids, molting, simple eye, and crustaceans.  Ended the week going to the Post Office and learning how everything works, the kids got a chance to send themselves a post card and after several days they received them, one of the exciting parts of the trip.
